Diligent, humble, teachable reading and study and hearing of God's Word is the means by which the Christian becomes equipped to stand against the deceptions of the enemy and to do the work God has called him to do.

After reminding the readers of the promise to believers of glorification and being conformed into the image of the Son of God, Paul then goes on to other promises that we should base our lives on. If God is for us, how could our enemies ever defeat us? We should live with an expectation of victory. For some like Paul, it was victory in death, but we should live with an expectation of victory. We should live with an expectation that if we need something to fulfill God's will, He will provide. If He was willing to give us His Son for our redemption, what would He withhold from us? We should live recognizing that if God has declared us not guilty, it doesn't matter what the world charges us with because God is greater than the world. The world condemning us means nothing, because Christ rose from the dead and is seated at the right hand of the Father, proving that He has overcome the world.

"O Timothy!" This was Paul's earnest plea with the young man following in his footsteps. We need to hear that plea today as Paul crying out to each of us saying the same thing he said to Timothy. We must steadfastly hold onto the faith and the Word of God entrusted to us, and not yield to the seductive influence of worldly philosophies and false science. Salvation and the Word of God are immutable foundations that must not be compromised or altered by cultural shifts or deceptive teachings. Compare the contrast between the stability of biblical authority with the transient nature of modern media and societal trends, which often distract from eternal truths. Believers are called to prove all things, actively avoiding profane distractions and testing all things against Scripture to maintain their spiritual integrity. Remaining faithful to these core doctrines ensures survival in perilous times and honors God's unchanging character.

When we left off, the Israelites were on top of the world. God had rescued them from certain death by parting the Red Sea, ushering them through, and drowning all their enemies. In celebration of this miraculous victory, they sang a song of salvation to their God. What a triumphant moment! If we were writing the story, many of us would have stopped it right there. The words "The End" would come up and the credits would roll. But, in God's story, that was not the ending. Instead, God's people went directly from this triumph into a trial, from this amazing high to a significant low. They soon discover that they are without their most basic necessity; there is no water. Once again, they are facing certain death, and once again, they are utterly dependent upon God to provide for them what they do not have. And once again, God will show Himself faithful. He will turn a bitter providence into a sweet one.

This sermon examines Nehemiah chapter 6 to illustrate how God preserves His people to finish the work He has started. The preacher highlights three key aspects of this preservation: strength against intimidation, discernment against deception, and completion amidst ongoing compromise. By analyzing Nehemiah's refusal to be distracted by enemies or false prophets, the message encourages believers to remain focused on their divine mission despite external pressures and internal weaknesses. The text emphasizes that ultimate success belongs to God alone, who completes the work in His time regardless of human opposition. Consequently, the church is called to maintain vigilance and faithfulness as it approaches its own milestones, trusting in God's power rather than its own efforts.
