Michelle Weger wakes up on a good day with what she describes as about 40% of the energy of the average person. Living with narcolepsy forced her to get very good at using small windows of time, building systems around her capacity, and figuring out what actually helps her perform well.
In this episode, Michelle and I talk about sustainable productivity, procrastination, perfectionism, energy management, automation, and what high performance can look like when your body or brain doesn’t operate according to the standard productivity playbook.
Michelle shares how she redesigned her work around the way her brain and body function, including small changes to deadlines and expectations that make reliability easier. We also get into the fear underneath procrastination, why researching the “perfect” productivity system can become another form of avoidance, and how small actions build confidence.
One of my favourite ideas from our conversation: a high-performing system needs to keep working when real life gets messy.
In this episode:
How narcolepsy changed Michelle’s approach to productivity and energy management
Why fear can show up as procrastination and perfectionism
Building confidence through small, repeated actions
Creating productivity systems that account for unpredictable capacity
How Michelle decides what to automate and what to keep human
Why AI can become another productivity distraction
External accountability and support systems that help us follow through
About Michelle
Michelle Weger is a Productivity Expert, Resilience Speaker, and AI & Business Automation Strategist with over 14 years of proven success.
Following her narcolepsy diagnosis in her early twenties, Michelle channeled that challenge into a driving force for business building and relied on productivity strategies and automation to sustain the lifestyle she needed and to maximize every moment of wakefulness.
Her bestselling memoir, Don’t Snooze Your Dreams: Lessons from Life with Narcolepsy, has topped charts in Canada and the United States.
Recognized as one of the youngest winners of Ottawa’s Forty Under 40, Michelle has shared her stories and insights on CTV, CBC Marketplace, and You Can’t Ask That.

There is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from trying to work, parent, stay connected, keep up with everything coming through your phone, and somehow remain a regulated human through all of it.
Dr. Jody Carrington joined me for one of the rawest conversations I’ve had on Energy + Hours about burnout, nervous-system regulation, motherhood, social media, comparison, and our very human need for other people.
Jody is a clinical psychologist, bestselling author and speaker who studies human connection. Her perspective on burnout starts with something many productivity conversations miss: our bodies haven’t evolved at the same speed as the world around us.
We talk about the amount of information our nervous systems are processing, the pressure women carry to do everything well, and why asking for help can feel so difficult even when we desperately need it.
In this episode:
⏳ How social media comparison contributes to shame, loneliness and overwhelm
⏳ The connection between burnout, emotional regulation and nervous-system overload
⏳ Why working mothers are carrying a particularly complicated set of expectations
⏳ What Jody means by “microdosing emotional regulation”
⏳ How community and co-regulation help us handle stress
⏳ Why resentment and irritability can signal that you need a reset
⏳ What asking for help has to do with sustainable productivity
⏳ Small ways to reconnect with yourself during a demanding day
About Dr. Jody
Dr. Jody Carrington is a powerhouse speaker and fearless champion for authentic human connection. Dr. Jody boldly believes that all humans have the capacity for good; however, so many of us these days, because of isolation and burnout, have lost access to that good. Dr. Carrington is the founder and principal psychologist at Carrington & Company, she's written three best-selling books, speaks on hundreds of stages globally each year, and hosts the widely celebrated podcast UNLONELY. Dr. Jody is clear on one thing: we were never meant to do any of this alone.

There is a strange thing happening with productivity right now. Technology, AI, and automation can save us hours, but we keep finding new work to fill those hours with.
In this episode of Energy + Hours, I’m talking with business architect Katie MacLachlan about what happens when we stop treating extra capacity as an invitation to produce more.
Katie spent 23 years in tech before building Be Good Guide, where she helps entrepreneurs create businesses around the human actually running them. She combines systems, tech, strategy, astrology, and Human Design to help business owners build sustainable ways of working.
We get into the overlap between time management and business systems, including how to tell when overwhelm is pointing to a structural problem. Katie shares a simple way to audit repetitive work and look for tasks that can be dropped, delegated, or automated.
We also talk about energy management and the pressure entrepreneurs put on themselves to operate at full capacity all the time. Katie designs her week around her energy, protects large blocks of focused work, limits meeting days, and intentionally blocks recovery time into future weeks.
I especially loved our conversation about what happens after a system gives you time back. You don't automatically owe that time back to your business.
In this episode:
⏳ How to spot a systems problem hiding underneath a time management problem
⏳ Why entrepreneurs need dedicated space to work on the business
⏳ Using systems, automation, and AI to reduce repetitive work
⏳ Katie’s “drop, delegate, or automate” approach to business tasks
⏳ Designing your workweek around your actual energy and capacity
⏳ Why flow requires recovery rather than sustained output
⏳ The unrealistic expectations business owners create for themselves
⏳ Getting comfortable moving tasks when priorities change
⏳ Why a cancelled meeting can genuinely be a gift
⏳ Building recovery time into your calendar before you desperately need it
⏳ Making room for creativity, play, thinking, and life outside of work
⏳ How sustainable productivity changes as a business grows
This episode is especially useful for entrepreneurs, founders, ambitious women, ADHD and neurodivergent business owners, and anyone whose workload keeps expanding to fill every bit of available time.
About Katie:
Katie MacLachlan is the founder of Be Good Guide and co-founder of Soulward Summit. She spent 23 years in tech and product before realizing she already knew strategy, and it still wasn't working. So she started blending business architecture with Human Design and astrology to figure out why. Now she helps capable, experienced founders build businesses around how they actually operate, not a borrowed playbook, through her Unbothered Business Blueprint.
Alongside her Be Good Guide work, she co-runs Soulward Summit, a women founders' event built to create real connection, collaborations and the village we've been looking for. The Summit is expanding into local chapters, with Nashville already launched, so founders get resources, community and momentum year round.

A productivity system can look great on paper and still make your life harder.
In this episode, I’m talking with Adrienne Dalaly about personalized productivity, ADHD, burnout, rest, delegation, and what happens when the systems that once worked for us stop fitting.
Adrienne works at the intersection of process and project management, risk analysis, astrology, and tarot. Her approach gives us a useful way to think about time management: gather information about how you work, test what helps, and keep adjusting as your life changes.
We talk about the client who had accumulated 27 different systems as her business grew, why handing something off means actually letting someone else own it, and Adrienne’s experience discovering that the rest she thought would require 24 hours sometimes only required 90 minutes of being responsible for herself.
We also get into ADHD time perception, sensory rest for moms, creative thinking during periods of rest, and why founders often end up running businesses designed around everyone else’s working style.
In this episode:
Why growing businesses need regular systems audits
ADHD productivity and our sometimes unreliable perception of time
Delegating without taking the task back
The difference between rest and self-care
Why hobbies do not need to become side hustles
How rest can create space for ideas and creative problem-solving
Building flexible structure into your calendar
Using brain dumps and external support when everything feels tangled
Testing productivity tools before reorganizing your entire life around them
Recognizing when you’ve outgrown a system that used to work

Knowing how to get organized doesn’t always mean you can actually do it, especially when you’re overwhelmed or your brain doesn’t naturally work with the systems you’ve been given.
In this episode of Energy + Hours, I’m joined by organizing coach Tracy Hoth to talk about the practical and mental sides of getting organized. Tracy is a certified life and organizing coach and host of the top 1% globally ranked Organized Coach Podcast.
One of my favorite parts of this conversation is Tracy’s definition of being organized: knowing what you have and being able to find it when you need it.
We talk about why someone can be incredibly organized at work and struggle at home, how labels like “I’m a messy person” can stick with us, and why ADHD and neurodiverse brains may need different organizing tools and structures.
Tracy also shares her SPACE organizing method: Sort, Purge, Assign Homes, Contain, Energize. She uses the same process for physical clutter, time, projects, digital spaces, and even the thoughts taking up space in her brain.
We also get into the connection between clutter, mental load, and energy. Unfinished tasks, paperwork, clutter, and all those things you keep meaning to deal with can continue taking up capacity even when you aren’t actively working on them.
In this episode, we talk about:
What it actually means to be organized
How the identity of being “messy” can affect your habits
Organizing systems for ADHD and neurodiverse brains
Using timers, deadlines, accountability, and scheduling
Tracy’s 15-minute approach to decluttering
Why habits don’t need to happen every day to count
Resuming a routine without treating it as starting over
Tracy’s SPACE method for decluttering and organizing
How physical clutter adds to mental load and drains energy
Applying organizing principles to your calendar and weekly planning
Using digital calendars and paper planners together
The “wonderful one” strategy for reducing decision fatigue
About Tracy Hoth:

Planning your week with a clear head and living that week are two very different experiences.
In this episode of Energy + Hours, I’m joined again by time and energy management consultant Maddie Morris to talk about ADHD time management, weekly planning, energy, priorities, and building systems that make follow-through easier.
Maddie has ADHD herself, and one of my favorite ideas from this conversation is separating planning from doing. When you’re looking at the week as a whole, you can make decisions based on your bigger priorities. When you’re actually living through Tuesday afternoon, you need enough flexibility to respond to your energy, workload, family needs, and whatever else showed up.
We also talk about ADHD productivity surges and the recovery that can follow. Maddie shares how recognizing this pattern changed the way she plans lower-capacity days rather than expecting herself to maintain the same level of output every day.
From there, we get practical about weekly planning, including a planning session, reviewing the previous week, and adding a midweek check-in.
We also dig into an idea that comes up often in my work: time management starts long before you put something on a calendar. Your season of life, energy, responsibilities, best focus times, tolerance for meetings, and context switching all affect how a schedule works in real life.
A calendar can account for the human who has to live inside it.
In this episode:
Separating planning from doing with ADHD
Maddie’s “two most important things” approach
Planning for recovery after productivity surges
Weekly planning, reviews, and midweek check-ins
Choosing priorities when everything feels important
Reducing mental load and decision fatigue
Batching and themed days to reduce context switching
Using timers, visual cues, and environmental design
Building ADHD-friendly systems that require less willpower
Treating your schedule like an experiment and adjusting what doesn’t work
About Maddie:
Maddie Morris is a time and energy management consultant and speaker who helps leaders and teams train their calendars to focus on what matters most and create the conditions for their best work. Drawing from a decade as an executive assistant and Chief of Staff, plus her own experience with burnout and ADHD, she teaches practical ways to protect focus, manage energy, and build momentum with less wasted effort.

In this episode of Energy + Hours, I’m joined again by returning guest Courtney Cecil to look at boundaries from a systems perspective. One of my favorite ideas from this conversation is Courtney’s concept of the “vulnerability window”: the specific moment or set of conditions where a boundary tends to fall apart.
Maybe it’s opening your email as soon as you wake up and letting work determine the tone of your morning. Maybe an open stretch in your calendar disappears into your phone. Maybe work keeps bleeding into home because you haven’t decided what needs protecting in the first place.
Courtney walks us through how to find those vulnerable points and create practical controls that make boundaries easier to maintain.
We also talk about work-life integration, calendar audits, priorities, energy, and why boundaries can protect you from your own habits as much as they protect you from other people.
In this episode:
About Courtney Cecil:
Courtney Cecil is a fierce advocate for making work and life sustainable. She spent over two decades as a culture and organizational strategy executive in professional services and Fortune 50 companies before launching Working Moms Movement in 2023.
Through her Life Management System, Courtney helps working moms move from stretched thin and stuck in their to-do lists to feeling more in control and present for their careers, families, and wellbeing. She also works with organizations on retention and engagement strategies for caregivers and rising leaders.

There’s a particular kind of frustration that comes from going to bed on Sunday determined that this week will be different. My guest Chelsey Newmyer calls this “starting over every Monday,” and I knew exactly what she meant.
Chelsey is a productivity strategist and founder of The Cosmic Productivity Method. She helps women build productivity systems around their actual lives, using behavior science alongside astrology and Human Design to personalize the way they work.
Today, Chelsey uses my chart as an example of how astrology can offer clues about the routines, work environments and types of rest that may suit someone. We also talk about Human Design and the relief that can come from having language for work patterns you previously judged yourself for.
In this episode:
How to find flexibility when very little can come off your plate
How Chelsey uses astrology to personalize productivity
What your Sun, Moon and Rising signs can tell you about work and rest
Why productivity tools need to change across different seasons of life
How to build routines that can survive interruptions
The productivity practice Chelsey recommends almost universally
Chelsey's work is a fun extension of something I believe deeply about time management: learning more about yourself gives you more information to work with.

In this episode of Energy + Hours, I’m catching up with returning guest Rachel Newman about how much life can change as our kids get older, our work evolves, neurodivergence becomes part of the conversation, and we learn more about ourselves along the way.
Rachel and I originally connected when both of our work was deeply rooted in early motherhood. Years later, our kids are older and our lives look different. Rachel is homeschooling three children and navigating ADHD and dyslexia in her family. My own work has evolved from Grow Like a Mother into a much broader conversation about time management, energy management, sustainable productivity, and building systems around the life you actually have.
A big part of our conversation comes back to something I teach often: you are allowed to change the system.
We talk about paying attention when something stops serving you, making smaller adjustments when the bigger circumstances can’t change, and using routines and transition tools to make daily life easier for ADHD and neurodivergent brains.
In this episode:
How motherhood and our needs change as our kids get older
Discovering neurodivergence through your children
Letting yourself change a decision or system that no longer works
How seasons and life changes affect time management
Creating flexible routines when work, school, and home overlap
Using visual timers to support ADHD time blindness and transitions
Emotional regulation and accessing your tools when you’re dysregulated
Personalizing routines, schedules, and productivity systems around your actual life
This episode is especially for you if:
You’re in a season where your old routines have stopped working, your family’s needs are changing, you’re navigating ADHD or other neurodivergence, or you’re realizing that the productivity systems you used to rely on don’t fit your current life.
It’s also a useful listen for moms who are homeschooling or considering homeschooling and feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices available.
You don’t need to adopt somebody else’s entire system.
Take what works. Leave what doesn’t. Reevaluate when your circumstances change. Build around the people who actually live in your house and the responsibilities that actually fill your calendar.

Rachel Newman is a bestselling author, life coach, and homeschooling mom of three (twins included). She's the author of MomME, built on one core belief: moms matter too. You're folding laundry. Then you remember you need groceries. Which reminds you about an unanswered email. Which leads to a permission form. Which leads to a birthday gift you haven't ordered yet.
None of it was urgent. All of it interrupted you. Sound familiar?
In this solo episode, I'm breaking down the three places that everything in your life should live, and the one question you can start asking yourself today to stop carrying it all in your head.
Your brain is not a storage unit, a calendar, or a reminder system. It's a decision-making powerhouse and when you free it up from holding everything, that's when the creativity, the ideas, and the actual enjoyment of your life start coming back in.
In this episode, we cover:
⏳ Why mental load and overwhelm are often a systems problem, not a willpower problem
⏳ The difference between a calendar, a task list, and a note
⏳ How to use the rocks-and-Tetris-pieces framework to schedule tasks around fixed appointments
⏳ High-energy vs. low-energy to-do lists for people who struggle with capacity
⏳ The one question to ask every time a new thought pops into your head
⏳ Why your best ideas come in the shower (and how to make that happen more often)
⏳ Practical ways to capture information on the go, including the screenshot trick
⏳ What it looks like to work with Jill and how her approach is built for your current season, not a long-term contract
