Welcome to Season 3 of The Naked Vibes Show!
AUDIO NOTES:
:50 – Seeking to know yourself, sleuthing unmet desires, and tapping into your highest Self should always be a fresh experience. I read a morning devotional that contains works written in the 1800’s and 1920’s and the authors’ experiences still ring true today. The works we create now can inform others throughout the ages, if we seek to share truth, higher knowledge, and comfort. Along with good humor and provocative works of art!
2:30 – If you allow grief and loss to work in you, to inform you about who you have been in relation to those loved ones or circumstances that have passed, it will help you move into the future of who you are becoming.
3:00 – Everything and everyone in the whole world has shifted. We’re going through all kinds of changes and it helps to realize we’re doing it together. No one is alone in the experience.
3:25 – I’m inspired to rev up the Naked Vibes Show again because Podcast Movement is happening next week & I’m excited to be a part of that mix. There will be so many people there who put out a lot of energy to help others move the needle towards more success & fulfillment in their lives, and we can all learn from each other.
4:10 – Todd Cochrane, CEO of Blubrry, interviewed me on Podcast Insider. That conversation was also part of the inspiration for me to go ahead & dive into my next season now. You can hear that interview here. You’ll find it at 16:18 in that show.
5:46 – The Naked Vibes Show has two different types of episodes: Artist Conversations and Live Music to inspire and entertain you. And the Tune Your Vibes episodes, which provide you with tools for living an amazing life. I’m a Certified High Performance Coach and a Remo Drums HealthRHYTHMS facilitator and I’ve got plenty of ways to help you get a lot more satisfaction and joy from life.
7:00 – It would be helpful for you to let me know what you want most. What are your greatest needs right now? What are you struggling with? The more I know, the more I can address it specifically. Email me: info@ nakedvibes .com. (No spaces. Just hoping that will cut down on spam 🙄)
7:30 – I’m working on a way to engage in more group conversation, as opposed to just one-way delivery of inspiration. It’s a private group called REALMen Rock! designed for successful, creative men to come together for inspiration, for finding comrades to walk the sometimes treacherous journey of life and bring as much joy to it as possible. I’ll share tools for learning new ways to reduce stress, to flow around the obstacles you face, to communicate better with your spouse or partner and have much greater intimacy, to be a better dad, to move through creative blocks… So, yeah, we’ll be talking about body, mind, and spirit – learning how to tap into your highest levels of Energy in areas of sexuality, spirituality, health, & leadership.
Unlike a Facebook group where you’re distracted with ads and not really sure if it’s secure, this is a proprietary platform created just for this private group because safety and privacy are a must. You’ll be able to connect with each other, including through video if you like. You’ll be able to share with me the kinds of issues that are most pressing for you in the moment and I can address those. I’ll be able to bring in guest experts to really tap into what you need most.
You know there will be MUSIC – always gotta have music! If this interests you, sign up for news here on the site. My subscribers will be the first to know when the doors open to REALMen Rock!
Oh…AND we’ll have a specific, private space for entertainment business professionals to connect as well.
11:15 – I’ve been recording new music as The REALM and I’m super excited for you to hear it! I just finished a song I wrote called “Dark Sky”. I’d been working on it prior to my daughter’s passing and when that happened, everything shut down and I went into a season of hibernation, grief, and caregiving for my dad…then more grief with his passing. During the last year, as I’ve opened back up to life a bit, one of the things that was calling to me was the music. So, I decided to open up those recording sessions and was surprised to find that my guitar player, Brian Miller, and I had recorded way more than either of us remembered. I got with my friend and producer, Bobby Hoke, to pick up where we had left off, and with Mike Daane to lay down some killer fretless bass. I haven’t released it yet, so I’ll just play you a short sample here.
13:08 – SONG: “Dark Sky” – The REALM – words & music by KB Cain ©2022 Rhythmic Hips Music
14:15 – The power of music can’t be measured or put into words. It brings a feeling of gratitude for the pleasure of working with great musicians and for taking a creative spark and making it tangible. Doing the work was a joyful process. It was like firing up rusty spark plugs – cleaning ‘em up & revving the engine on a badass sports car. As we worked on the tracks, I could feel the music making contact with my soul, reminding me of who I am and what I’m here to do in the world. Music does something to us on a cellular level. It’s that powerful.
16:00 – There are so many things in life – from huge life-altering events and grief to the daily mundane tasks and nuisances that can be soul-sucking if we allow it. We have to be diligent about remaining true to who we are, to playing with our creative tools, to stretching our boundaries beyond what we think we’re capable of or have the energy to do.
17:00 – A quick exercise to check in with yourself – to learn about unmet desires that are percolating below the surface of your consciousness. This is a powerful tool to get you feeling more comfortable in your own skin, so you can show up to your relationships, your work, and your life more powerfully.
19:51 – Short, fun, and FREE! Download my Instant Ignition E-book. It will take you into the next steps on dealing with these unmet desires. It will awaken your passion for feeling into and living your life from the unique perspective that is YOU. We bypass so much of who we are and what we have to offer in favor of catering to the world’s demands that we can completely forget our deepest, most thrilling desires. I want to help awaken that part of you because it provides clues to getting the most out of life. We’re here for a short time. Let’s make it count.

A recent conversation with a friend made me aware that men are more hungry than ever for leadership mentoring. Continually shifting and uncertain times have left you unsure of where you stand in the world of business and personal relationships with women and how you can best lead others.
Dean Brown mentored thousands of people in his life and I thought it would be helpful to share a conversation I recorded with him during a Men’s Leadership Mastermind.
Dean is my father and he passed on last year. He still has much wisdom to share through videos and audio recordings, though. He not only mentored and guided many men in their roles as leaders, he was also responsible for saving the lives of more than a few. I think you’ll enjoy hearing the insights of a man who was highly successful as a business owner and entrepreneur, as a husband and father, and as a spiritual mentor. The fact that his wife of 51 years adored him and his daughters considered him their best friend says a lot about his ability to honor women and to lift them up in ways that only a strong, confident, and secure man can do. Guys, take notes!
Show Notes:
4:48 – Leaders are willing to step into the unknown, bringing their whole selves along for the ride. The dance of masculine/feminine energies is always at work – yin/yang. There’s not such thing as “just business”. People do business, so that makes everything personal. Two sides to the same coin.
6:15 – Men’s leadership is particularly important at this time because as many women step into leadership roles, we need men to stand in their masculine energy to ground our changing world. Masculine power is a gift, not a competitive power to the feminine. Together, we make an integrated whole. Dean was a powerful mentor and example of men’s leadership at its best because he was a masculine man with the ability to share his compassion and his love with everyone around him. He understood that his receptive skills were equally important to his skills and his success as a proactive leader.
10:53 – Dean shares some stories of life-changing events that propelled him into his role as a public speaker, leader and mentor.
14:05 – As a young professional, Dean was approached to lead a group of teens and was initially reluctant, but he recognized that he had a responsibility to step up as a leader. It led him to a love of inspirational and motivational speaking that became a lifelong passion.
Try not to become a person of success, but rather try to become a person of value.
Albert Einstein
17:00 – Dean talks about the importance of developing listening skills in order to become more successful in business. He describes the need, from his experience working with a crisis center, to be discerning with people who pull you down with unrelenting talk about their problems. You have to learn how to know when to engage in deep listening.
19:15 – Men can have a hard time listening to women. Dean describes some of the reasons for this and why, in helping others to step into men’s leadership roles, he considers it vital to master your mindset in this area if you want to be successful in your business and personal relationships.
21:15 – We have many different personality styles and ways of approaching things. We may need to examine our views of the other gender to recognize men and women have equal value as human beings. Our roles have changed drastically since our origins of man as hunter/gatherer and woman as nurturer, so it stands to reason that when we try to communicate, we’re often not talking about the same thing.
22:10 – SONG: “Something Left Unsaid”
This is one from the archives of Frankly Scarlet, the duo I shared with my sister, Kelly Brown. From the album, Oh, Yeah. Get it on ITunes.
25:56 – Dean talks about using listening skills to best understand how to guide business conversations. When you are the leader, you want to make sure you stay in the position of steering the conversation. Losing control of that can mean loss of a business deal. Listening skills are vital for anyone to master, but especially in men’s leadership positions, because men can be challenged to stay focused and listen well to overly chatty women. (Dean is clear that it’s not just women who can meander in conversations and chatter about minutiae!)
28:15 – Preparing for business meetings by knowing something about the person you’ll be meeting can help you stay on point and keep your conversation going in the direction you want it to go. Dean gives tips for developing your intuitive skills (closely connected to listening skills) for steering the conversation.
29:10 – People often see intuitive skills as being more feminine, but male leaders have long been known to use intuitive skills to guide their “tribes”, heal their patients, invent, innovate, create, and take care of the Earth.
30:51 – Dean shares two stories about his own intuition and the profound impact it had on him. One instance, when he heeded his intuition, changed his life and made him more keenly aware of the pain of others. It also saved another man’s life. The other instance, in which he ignored his intuition, resulted in the loss of a cherished friendship.
35:42 – Dean encourages men to “listen to your intuition”. We have the DNA of God, regardless of what you want to call that higher power. It’s in our makeup to know things beyond our mental capacity. We don’t know exactly what to call it, but we need to learn to pay attention to it and act on it.
37:44 – Dean examines the fear men have about opening up to the power of the unknown. It can appear to be a weakness for them to open up to intuition, emotion, and spirituality. Dean was in the military and understands the mindset of needing to appear to have a impenetrable armor. He considers it a strength that Roger Staubach could stand up at Texas Stadium and shed tears as he expressed his love for and sadness over the loss of Tom Landry. It’s important for men in leadership positions to show other men that it’s okay to show emotion. Dean believes men have held themselves back by not showing this part of themselves.
39:15 – We won’t ever completely get over our fears, but part of men’s leadership and becoming a successful person and a person of value means you must discontinue to have fears about who you are and your own worth. Learn to be tender with your wife and your children. Show your loving side and not always your authoritative side.
39:55 – Dean shares the story of the change in his father when Dean was drafted for war. It melted his father’s heart to a point that he became a more tender person throughout the rest of his life. His father was also touched by the tenderness and excellence of a black man to the point that it melted away the racism that had been handed down to his father by his grandfather.
41:15 – Men don’t want to appear weak, especially to other men. You may be holding yourself back because of this fear. Indulging this fear prevents you from being the man you’re meant to be.
41:53 – In order for men to step into real leadership and women to step into theirs, we need men to open themselves to their tenderness. We all understand the masculine warrior, but as long as men sit in that role, there has to be an enemy. When a man opens himself up to his more receptive side – yes, he might get hurt – but he also might find peace. We’re waiting on men’s leadership to open to the more tender side. The world will look very different when that happens.
45:49 – SONG: “Hippo-Hoppo” – a little ditty from Dean Brown, a man who brought much tenderness, joy and laughter to everyone around him.

This feels like the right time – as this week is special for many people. In the Christian and Jewish faith traditions, it’s Holy Week – the time of Good Friday, Passover, and Easter. There are traditions celebrated by other faiths this month as well. Also, in most of the Northern Hemisphere, it’s Spring – a time of rebirth, rejuvenation, and renewal – no matter what your faith orientation. It’s fall in most of the Southern Hemisphere, by the way. I don’t want to leave you out – that’s another time of transition.
So, the reason for my hiatus… I was the primary caretaker for my father for a couple of years, during which he was challenged by cancer. I needed to, and chose to, put my whole focus on him. He was a vibrant person. So full of life, despite the circumstances. He passed on last year and I’ve needed time to recuperate and grieve the loss.
But here’s why this is a perfect time to bring on a new season of The Naked Vibes Show. My dad was my champion. He was my friend and mentor. He believed in me, loved me unconditionally, and continued to tell me so until he passed.
He cherished the creative spirit he saw and, along with my mother, cultivated in me and my sister. He fully expected me to rise up and continue inspiring others through their challenges and celebrating in their joys, just as he always did.
This is a time of resurrection, both in faith traditions and in nature. I did a podcast episode in March 2018 on the Life-Renewing Energy of Easter. You can take a listen to that episode here if you’d like to dive a little deeper into the energy of resurrection and renewal – what I call the Christ energy – and how it’s different from a lot of religious thinking.
This is also a strange time in the world right now. We’re in the middle of a global pandemic due to a Coronavirus. A lot of people are afraid – afraid of job loss, loss of loved ones, of their own health & well-being, of the daily working of life as we know it, and mostly, I think, loss of control. Though we never truly have control over most things outside of our own thoughts and actions, we often perceive that we do. A situation like this puts it right in our faces. We don’t.
So, I’d like to give you a few things to hold onto, to ponder, or to lift you up.
Here’s the beauty of faith. Faith is ultimately a belief that rebirth occurs. Without even thinking about it, we have faith that the trees are going to bud again and the flowers bloom in spring. It’s part of the life cycle. More powerfully, even, is the knowing that Love is a never-ending energy. Love simply is. It never dies. You are made of love. You never die. That is the ultimate message of the Easter story, the Christ energy. Always renewing. Never dying; just transitioning.
As always, music is the healer that touches our souls. I want to share a song with you, guaranteed to lift you up!
6:06 – SONG: “Love Is” – Written & co-produced by Wood Newton & Mark Elliott. Performed here by Mark Elliott.
What’s worth the pain? Love is.
Love is a complicated mystery, this one thing is clear
As long as we keep makin’ it, it’ll never disappear
Love is the reason we’re all here
Wood Newton & Mark Elliott
Here’s Wood Newton performing “Love Is”, with acoustic guitar, in his outdoor sanctuary in Nashville for you. Complete with a percussion track from a Pileated Woodpecker & harmonies, courtesy of various birds. Amazing the way that worked out!
You’ll find the lyrics to “Love Is” at the bottom of this post.
Learn more about artist, songwriter Mark Elliott – markelliottcreative.com.
If you’ve been listening to the Naked Vibes Show for a while, you may know that Wood is my uncle and a Grammy-winning Nashville songwriter. You’ll also find an episode of a full conversation and more music with Wood here.
Another song I think you’ll enjoy is “Believe”.
10:25 – SONG: “Believe” – Written & performed by Kelly Brown, aka Local Honey, with guitarist Rhett Butler. You’ll find conversation & more music from both Kelly and Rhett in these individual episodes.
I don’t know about you, but for me, the fact that Love never dies is really Good News!
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.
1 John 4:18
So, whatever you celebrate – be it Easter, Passover, Spring, or anything else – just be sure you continue to celebrate, even in this trying time.
Take care.
Love,
Kim
What’s worth the trouble what’s worth the pain
What’s worth driving yourself insane
Oh love is… oh love is
What’s the use in trying when nothing seems to work
What’s the use in crying when even the crying hurts
Oh love is… oh love is
Chorus
Oh Love is… the reason we are all here
Oh love is… a complicated mystery
But this one thing is clear
As long As we keep making it, it’ll never disappear
Oh Love is… oh love is
Everyone has questions everyone has doubts
Searching for the answers only to find out
love is… oh love is
Everybody wants to get it right or wrong
And what’s left behind when we’re dead and gone
Oh love is… oh love is
Chorus
Oh Love is… the reason we are all here
Oh love is… a complicated mystery
But this one thing is clear
As long As we keep giving it, it’ll never disappear
Oh Love is… oh love is

The healing power of music is Billy Yates’ ministry & with songs recorded by George Jones, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Sara Evans & more, plus two concurrent shows in Branson, he stays busy evangelizin’.
I had the privilege of connecting with Billy for a conversation & impromptu guerrilla style video shoot between his shows – the powerhouse Raiding the Country Vault concert & the more intimate Hit Songwriters in the Round. It was awesome to sit with him while he performed some of his hit songs in the theater setting before the crowd arrived. He shares his insights regarding our human vulnerabilities & how songs provide a vehicle to alleviate loneliness & suffering as well as lifting us into joy.
Be sure to catch the moment when, during the Raiding the Country Vault concert, I knew I had to have him on The Naked Vibes Show!
Enjoy the show on NAKED VIBES TV:
SHOW NOTES (times are for audio):
5:03 – LIVE ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE: Billy Yates plays the intro to “I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair”, recorded by George Jones. The song won a CMA Event of the Year.
5:57 – “I do my rockin’ on the stage” is one of my favorite lines from this song. The song became an anthem, not only for Jones, but for many of his older fans who intended to keep livin’ large! George Foreman was a huge fan & appeared in a video for the song.
6:38 – Julia Cameron talks about, in The Artist’s Way, the importance of starting anything you desire to do at any age. It’s never too late!
7:18 – Billy Yates’ show is about to start at his theater, where we’re recording, so there’s a lot of activity in the room. He talks about the evolution of becoming a songwriter in Nashville by singing on song demoes for other writers. They encouraged him on the value of his gift for phrasing. He had to learn the craft to tap into his skill for writing lyrics & melodies.
9:04 – Frank Dycus & Dean Dillon were instrumental in Billy’s development as a songwriter. He’s written & recorded many songs with them & says he most enjoys the friendships & feels like it’s therapeutic to collaborate, putting a puzzle together with others & having fun in the process.
10:09 – Billy talks about the inception of the creative process as a gift from God. He’s dreamed complete songs – when he wakes up & records them, he knows it’s coming from something beyond him.
11:11 – Music is healing. We don’t think about how important it is to our lives. Songs help us to feel less alone, uplift us when we’re down, & often teach us to see ourselves.
11:45 – Billy Yates likes writing from a first person perspective because it helps the listener connect with the artist. He knew his song “Choices” had to be recorded by someone who could really own it & allow themselves to be very vulnerable in performing it. George Jones made it a hit.
12:34 – All human beings have the same experiences – pain, joy, hardship, love – even though they may come in different shades. This is how even the solo writing experience becomes collaborative with the recording artist, making it their own by bringing their personal experiences & emotions to it.
13:23 – “Choices” was written Billy Yates with Mike Curtis, a great piano player & melody writer. He was coming to Billy’s house to write & Billy didn’t have a piano. Billy told him, “We’ve got three chords & the truth; that’s all we’ve got today!” Though they didn’t have George Jones in mind when writing the song, they eventually approached him with it because Billy felt like it was a song that offered healing.
14:00 – Billy knew the song would eventually find its way to the right artist. It took some time before it was recorded. When he was touring with Alan Jackson, Alan played it while sitting around on the bus a lot & Billy thought he’d record it, but he never did. Alan did play a piece of it on an awards show.
George Jones heard the song multiple times, but it took a while before he decided to record it. Billy believes it hit a bit too close to home. Billy refers to it as a “fill in the blank song” because, though it talks about drinking & the effects of it, any person can still relate to it by filling in their own personal hang-up. It comes down to the consequences of our choices, whether good or bad ones.
15:24 – LIVE ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE – Billy Yates plays “Choices”.

18:49 – It takes courage to allow the kind of vulnerability that comes through when performing songs that touch the deeper issues of life, as “Choices” does. Billy talks about the boost the song gave to Jones’ career, winning him a Grammy, but he believes it was even more important for Jones on a spiritual level.
After Jones recorded “Choices” & before it was released, he was playing it over the phone for his stepdaughter as he was driving home from Nashville. There was some Vodka involved & he hit a bridge, a wreck that almost killed him. Jones later told Billy that he felt like he was being given a second chance & he turned his life around.
21:00 – Billy talks about the vulnerability of songwriters & performers, even moreso, & our desire for encouragement when we express ourselves. It may have a lot to do with what drives us into performance as a profession.
Music is healing. Musicians & performers are healers. Billy Yates has always viewed his career in the music business as a “calling”. He grew up singing gospel music with his family & many people still feel like they need to keep praying for him because of his choice to sing country music. He says that’s okay; he’ll take all the prayers he can get! However, it’s important to understand that we’re not all called to be church preachers. We minister to others by following our own unique, God-given gifts to help others. Billy has toured Europe for fifteen years & it’s his “ministry” to put smiles on faces & bring people joy through the healing power of music.
23:23 – Billy invited my uncle, Wood Newton, to perform at Hit Songwriters in the Round & that’s what got me to Branson. I was so inspired by the show, as well as the other concert he does – Raiding the Country Vault – I knew I had to jump on it & get a guerrilla-style recording for a podcast with Billy! So, this was very impromptu!
I wanted to tell people about Hit Songwriters in the Round because it’s different from other things going on in Branson. It’s a real Nashville-style experience.
24:33 – Billy started Hit Songwriters in the Round as a leap of faith. Branson has a lot of great talent & there’s a lot of friendly competition, so it takes a lot to start a new show. But he was missing his songwriting friends & wanted to figure out a way to bring them in to work with him. It’s working, because he’s seen how much joy it brings to audiences, as well as to the songwriters who come in to perform, so it’s been well worth it.
26:30 – The moment I knew I needed to have Billy Yates on The Naked Vibes Show was during his performance in Raiding the Country Vault when he told the audience, “I’m naked in the show more than I have clothes on!” It’s a big concert with a lot of clothing changes. Billy goes straight from that show to the next. He’s a hard-working performer & has a lot of fun while he’s bringing it to his audiences.
27:26 – LIVE ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE – Billy Yates plays a piece from a song he wrote for Kenny Chesney from his “Me and You” record – “Turn For The Worse”.
28:34 – Be true to who you are because your uniqueness is a ministry!
