  • E016: Future of Clean Energy in the Pacific

Any of today's challenges multiply in the Pacific countries because of the vast distances between countries. As these countries are highly dispersed, the cost of fossil fuel multiplies because of the cost of transportation and storage.

In today's episode, Olly Norojono, Director, Energy Division, Pacific Department of the Asian Development Bank explains this region and ADB's work in the region.

Olly highlights ADB's focus on the future of renewable energy, off-grid solar, and energy efficiency. He explains the countries and the huge opportunities it brings for all. He explains how today's electrification of transport is bringing the transport and energy sectors closer as the transport sector diversified from just building roads to a more comprehensive approach to infrastructure.

We discuss climate change and the use of renewable energy technology for mobility. We also talk about the need for private investors in the Pacific and ADB's guarantee fund to reduce the cost of borrowing.

  • E014: Ins and Outs of Indian Electric Vehicle Market with Mr. Tiwari

Wow! So many things are happening in India's electric vehicle market. I did not know. To find out more, please listen to this episode.

Mr. Tiwari starts painting this landscape with the current demand growth despite the lockdown. He explains all incentives for consumers and manufacturers of electric cars in India, their pricing and marketing strategies, and why it is a buyer's market.

His confidence never swayed by the range anxiety questions as hardly anyone drives close to 100 km in a day.

He explains the extraordinary boom in the last mile of EV—about half a million each of 3-wheeler and 2-wheelers running in the market.

He discusses electric vehicle conversions he worked on a project with Hydro Tasmania, Australia in the late 90s and how today a local entrepreneur is converting gasoline cars to electric for about $4000.

We discuss growing competition among new EVs with about 15 new models, the leasing options, electric boats, swappable batteries, the 10,000 buses, and the 1400 km Delhi-Mumbai dedicated electric vehicle corridors, and much more.

  • E013: EV Strategy: Manufacturing, Scaling up and Investment in Charging Infrastructure

Based in Netherland, Roland operates a boutique EV consultancy. Today he shares the many policy intents behind e-mobility strategies for infrastructure development all around the world.

Please join us today to find out why counties must start a staged approach to develop a new EV industry, opportunities a new EV industry will create, and why new Giga factories are essential—Central Asia definitely needs one such Giga factory.

There is no going back, EVs are going to stay and grow. Roland explains why the introduction of electric buses by city governments makes more sense right now.

He explains the Charge Point Operator or CPO, and the charge point manufacturing—a new business, which is the backbone platform managing the charging ecosystem.

We discuss concession structures and "regulation by contract" and options for charging infrastructure—we contradicted on some points, especially should charging be a regulated monopoly or a competitive business. We discussed leasing fees and residual value maintenance of EVs and more.
