這一集非常榮幸可以邀請到英文系許立欣教授與我們分享Emily Dickinson的詩，這位19世紀新英格蘭詩人的作品究竟有甚麼魔力呢? 英文系老師是怎麼上「詩」這個體裁的作品呢? 讀者可以怎麼解讀這首詩呢? 我們將帶領大家一步步揭開它神秘的面紗!

This podcast, hosted by a junior student Mina and a Literature professor Li-hsin Hsu, both from the English Department of NCCU, features the close reading of a poem "Wild Nights! Wild Nights!" by a nineteenth-century New England poet Emily Dickinson. Presented on Dickinson's birthday, December the 10th, the episode celebrates Dickinson's poetic legacy by exploring the use of various nautical metaphors in the poem in relation to the motif of love and passion. The conversation also provides a brief introduction to the poet's life and work, and invites readers to engage with the poem in their own cultural contexts. (Written by professor Hsu)

名詞解釋/Glossary

The speaker:

the person who is the voice of poem.

Lyric poem:

Originally, a poem meant to be sung to the accompaniment of a lyre; now, any relatively short poem in which the speaker expresses his or her thoughts and feelings in the first person rather than recounting a narrative portraying a dramatic situation.

Poetic persona:

an implied reader in mind while creating a piece of artwork. implied author: meaning a supposed writer we have in mind while reading a poem or a piece of fiction.

Fascicle poems:

During Dickinson’s intense writing period (1858-1864), she copied more than 800 of her poems into small booklets, forty in all, now called “fascicles.” ( from Emily Dickinson Museum)
