Each person has their own beliefs. Sometimes, we share these beliefs with others, and at other times, these beliefs are just our own. Many people like to meet others who have similar beliefs. Often, we do this by being a member of a religious denomination. We can meet people who belong to the same religion by going to religious places together.

The world is filled with many amazing places of worship where people can celebrate with a group. Mormons meet regularly at a temple. Followers of Islam meet at a mosque. Jews go to a synagogue, and Christians go to church. These are just a few examples of the different types of places where people celebrate their beliefs.

Do you know someone who likes to tell you every detail about their day? These type of people can talk for hours and hours. Sometimes, this is too much information. And sometimes, you might not have time to listen to all of these details. Next time a person is talking like this, you could politely ask them to explain their story in broad strokes.

When we speak in broad strokes, we do not share every detail. Instead, we speak in general about something, and we tell only the most important details. A person might want to tell you about a peculiar new coffee shop. They might begin talking about how the shop looks, how the coffee tasted, where the coffee was from, how jittery and hyper the coffee made them, and many other details. But if you only have a little time, you could ask them to explain in broad strokes instead.

Today is a very popular holiday in the United States. It’s Halloween! On Halloween, people wear costumes. These costumes are usually creepy things, like witches, clowns, or vampires. At a haunted house, people explore a scary place together. There might be cobwebs on the walls or a dead man with a chainsaw. People will hear eerie sounds from ghosts or monsters. Sometimes, there is a maze, and people have to be careful not to get lost as they try to run away from the haunted house. After being happily terrified, people end the night by eating a lot of Halloween candy.

Breatharianism is a popular topic on the internet nowadays. Instead of counting calories, a Breatharian is a person who consumes no food and no water. Breatharians believe they can replenish their bodies just by breathing air and meditating. Other people are not buying it. In fact, they think it’s dangerous and absurd. How can a human be sustained by only air?

When do you act crazy and intense? What happens during these times? Perhaps, your brothers are so noisy that you can’t study. You might become angry and freak out on them by yelling and telling them to be quiet. Or you might learn that your ex-girlfriend has been on a stakeout near your home. This might freak you out and make you feel uncomfortable. On the other hand, you may have had a long week. On Friday, you could go to the dance club and freak out on the dance floor.

So, what does freak out actually mean? We use this expression for both good and bad feelings. But when someone freaks out, they are always intense and probably a little crazy. They lose control of their emotions, sometimes, in a happy way and, at other times, in an angry way. Some people can save their energy. They use their intuition to decide when to freak out.

Are you a morning person? A morning person is someone who feels good in the mornings. This kind of person can wake up at the crack of dawn and feel energized. And then, there’s the night owl. A night owl is a person who likes to stay up late and sleep in the next morning. This kind of person feels best at night. In the morning, they feel cranky and out of it. Sometimes, a night owl wants to become a morning person. This can be difficult! It takes a few weeks (and maybe, lots of caffeine) to get used to getting up early.

In 2011, three university classmates created a new app called Snapchat. Like other websites and apps, Snapchat digitizes your life. It lets you share short videos and pictures with friends. You can follow famous people and your favorite companies. But unlike those other websites and apps, Snapchat is temporary. Your photos and videos disappear after people see them.

Wait, what? The photos and videos disappear? That’s right. Although you can save your own content, you can’t save other people’s content. For some people, this is frivolous.
