Snowflakes are one of nature’s biggest mysteries. These ice crystals fall from the sky as unique shapes. No two snowflakes are the same. Even more interesting is that all snowflakes are examples of geometry. How is it possible to find math in nature?

Of course, the more you think about it, the more examples you can find. Beeswax is made of hundreds of hexagons (a shape with six sides). Many plants grow in a geometric way. Even the inside of an orange can teach a child fractions. Math is everywhere once you start looking for it.

Friends. We love them, but we also get mad at them. We don’t see enough of them, and then sometimes we see too much of them. Our friends are there for us in both the good times and the bad times. Friendship takes work, but life would be pretty boring without it.

It’s common to describe the connection between two people on a social networking site like Facebook as “friending.” But if you can friend someone, you can also unfriend them, and it’s difficult not to take it personally if you’ve been removed from someone’s list of friends. Is it ever OK to cheat? Most people would probably say no. Not ever! Cheating is inexcusable, and it’s not fair to the people who studied. But cheating definitely happens, and there are people who believe that it’s no big deal to get the answers to a test beforehand. How can people feel so differently about something so serious?

The fact is that what seems serious to one person isn’t a big issue to someone else. If your friend believes that she won’t get into the university she wants to attend if she doesn’t cheat a little on her exam, she might do it. In her opinion, no one is getting hurt, so it’s OK. But another friend might feel that cheating is always foolish and wrong. He might tell his teacher about your friend who cheated. People’s feelings about cheating are definitely on a spectrum.

In some countries, you cannot find clean drinking water easily. But in the US, it’s everywhere! It’s easy to buy a water bottle wherever you are: at the store, at the gas station, or even at school. There’s no reason to be thirsty!

However, buying water bottles isn’t always the best choice. If you buy one water bottle every day, that’s seven bottles in a week, thirty in a month, and over 500 in a year! And all of that plastic gets thrown into landfills. What a waste!

Instead, many people choose to get a reusable water bottle. It’s easy to fill up, and you won’t be throwing away so much plastic. It’s a little thing, but it makes a big difference for the environment.

There’s a well-known tongue twister in English: “She sells seashells by the seashore.” It might be difficult to say, but it creates an interesting picture in your mind. A regular beachgoer will tell you that they’ve never seen anyone sell seashells because you can pick them up off the sand anywhere.

Seashells are like small houses for sea animals that live inside of them. By the time seashells wash up onto the beach, they are empty. Seashells come in different shapes, sizes, and colors. Some people collect them as souvenirs.
