    Quote of the Week:
It's so important to know that joy and happiness are different.  Happiness comes and goes but joy is a constant and that's no matter the outcome.  Joy is something in us that's always in process.  Life isn't easy, but you still can have your joy.  I have all those goals too, and vision boards.  But my true success is that joy because that's the freedom.  That freedom...that's my passion to help people have that because then they can step into who they are." ~ Michelle Harris

  • 5 Things You Should Teach Your Child About Their Self-Image | ETHX 068
If you've listened to the podcast or followed me on social media for very long, you know I'm a huge proponent of making changes to our self-image as the first step to realizing changes in our experience.
    Why?
Because, "When [we] change, everything will change for [us]." ~ Jim Rohn
I often say there's only one variable in the game of life, and that's us!
This is great news because it gives us 100% control over our circumstances and allows us to change fast, if we want to.
In this episode I share some important ideas that you, as a parent, should teach your child about their self-image.
When you teach these concepts to your child at a young age they'll have a lot of time to practice them.
In fact, I've even called this the greatest gift you can give a child.
They'll be able to create so much more happiness and success for themselves in life because they'll be working with the root cause of the experiences they encounter...their state of being.
Before we get into the specifics, let's talk about why it's so important to begin with our self-image if we want to affect real and lasting change in our lives.
    It's important because...
We can only act in ways that are consistent with the way we see ourselves.
Sure, we can force ourselves to do something once or twice.
But, to really show up every day in a consistent way, it's so much more effective to put our efforts into changing the way we see ourselves.
When we develop a new self-image, one that is aligned with the experiences we want, and we impress it upon our consciousness, we will naturally start to express ourselves in ways that are consistent with this new image.
It's import to constantly remind your child that the light that shines through them will illuminate any picture they hold of themselves in their mind's eye, so make sure they hold the highest, noblest, most successful picture they can conjure!
5 things you should teach your child about their self-image:
Their self-image will govern everything they'll ever do or have in life:  If we want to change our behaviors and act in ways that support the conditions we want in life, we can certainly force ourselves to do it using will power.  However, this approach takes an enormous amount of physical and emotional energy.  Because, we're working against ourselves.  We're trying to paddle up-stream so-to-speak.  The more intelligent way is to change the central program we're running and the ideas we have about ourselves in a gentle gradual way and then let ourselves be pulled and inspired to do things that are consistent with that new self-concept.
They have the final say...they get to decide who and what they'll be:  This might be a tough one for you, as a parent to swallow, but just hear me out.  Everyone comes into this world with an agenda that only they can truly understand and carry out.  No one can walk the path for us.  Even though your child came into the world through you, they didn't come to you.  Kahlil Gibran wrote about this.  It's important to remind them that they have the power to design their self-image using their imagination, and while they should certainly take your guidance, they have the final say.
Their guide is inside:  Teach them that their true guide is within them.  It's the little voice that is forever whispering to them about what they should be and do to carry out their mission here on earth.  No one ever created anything great by conforming to the opinions of other people, and no one ever will.  Every innovator has turned within and connected with their authentic self first and then expressed that to the world.  So, help them get to know themselves and tune in to what their intuition is telling them to do.  Remind them that there's something within them that wants to come out.  Help them nurture and express it in a way that serves others.  Their innate gifts, talents, and inclinations are their gold mine.  When tapped and mined, they will become an infinite source of happiness, satisfaction, prosperity, and bliss.
Create and use focusing tools, exercises, and practices on a daily basis:  There are a lot of ways to harness and focus the creative power within us.  It can be as simple as taking a few minutes before each day to think of themselves being the person they want to be and setting a positive intention to show up in a deliberate way.  Another effective focusing tool is a Being Board.  A being board is a visual representation of the qualities, characteristics, and attributes they'll need to embody to cause the experiences they want to have in life.  You can make this a family activity and make one for yourself too.  Being boards are fun to make and very rewarding.  And, they'll help you create real change in your life.
They have to renew their self-image every day, and they're never done:  Just like we need to renew our bodies through exercise and eating, we also have to renew our self-image through daily inner work.  Everything in The Universe cycles from creation to destruction.  If we don't focus on our ideal self every day we'll forget and we'll get off track.  By developing our self-image on a daily basis and constantly re-working and refining it we realize more and more success in life.
    Quotes of the Week:
Before you can do something, you must be something." ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
The world is a mirror, forever reflecting what you are doing within yourself." ~ Neville Goddard
Our self-image strongly held, essentially determines what we become." ~ Maxwell Maltz

  • Developing Confidence And Creating Opportunities For Yourself And Others With Kayla-Leah Rich | ETHX 067
Have you ever really thought about the importance of having more confidence and the impact this could have on your life?
I'm talking about impacting every area of your life; your relationships, your finances, your health and wellness, and of course, your overall happiness and joy?
If you haven't, you're in for a real treat today, because my guest knows a thing or two about all of the awesome experiences that await you when you embark on the journey of improving your confidence.
I met Kayla-Leah through my good friend AlejAndro Anastasio at the TEDx Boise 2017 event.
Both AlejAndro and Kayla-Leah presented talks at that event.
Kayla-Leah's talk, titled "The Cost of Menstrual Shame" was a real eye-opener for me about the struggle women go through in developing countries and even right here at home when it comes to managing their menstrual cycle.
    Here's her TEDx talk:
Since meeting Kayla-Leah and being introduced to her work I've read her book, Purple Crayon Confidence, and followed her work.
In this interview we cover a lot of ground, including her book, her TEDx talk, her work with Days for Girls.
We also discuss her upcoming Purple Crayon Confidence 18 Day Challenge and what you can expect from this going through this course.
You can visit Kayla-Leah's website to stay up to date on everything she's doing, including her future projects.
You can also sign up for The Purple Crayon Confidence 18 Day Challenge there.
The challenge starts on June 18th.
    Quote of the Week:
You get to set the tone around menstruation.  I have four boys, Mark.  Four boys.  And I work in Days for Girls.  My house is a maxi-pad manufacturing plant.  My license plate says "PERIOD" on it...I got to set the tone in my own home and I realized before I was setting a tone of shame and silence.  So this has been my own personal journey too, to realize that my hiding isn't doing them any favors." ~ Kayla-Leah Rich, talking about the impact we can all make by deciding how we want to approach tough subjects like menstruation

  • Why Bother, Someone Else Is Already Doing It | ETHX 066
Have you ever scrapped something (or thought about scrapping it) just because someone else was already doing it (and better than you are)?
It could be anything, a project, a business, whatever.
Maybe you say to yourself (as I sometimes do), "They are so good at it, why even bother?"
Well, if either of these statements have ever crossed your mind, on today's episode of the podcast I'm going to share a few of my favorite counter measures (thought tools) that may help you push through this type of thinking and do the thing you want to do despite any and all internal resistance you may be facing.
Another thing I often think about when it comes to this type of thinking is the notion that every pro-player in any field began as an amateur.
    Every single one of them.
This is really one of the core challenges we face every day as human beings and must get over to have happiness and success.
You may be familiar with the expression, "There's nothing new under the sun."
Well, there is actually something new under the sun...and that's how YOU do it.
The newness is your own expression of what your doing in the world.
While what you're doing may have been done before, it has never been done in just the way you do it.
This is reason enough to do the thing...so you can do it in your own unique way.
I share more of my favorite thoughts on this subject in the podcast.

  • Use The Konmari Method To Improve Your Business And Your Life | ETHX 065
Have you ever used the Konmari Method to declutter your home and allow more joy to flow into your experience?
If so, I have a feeling you're going to like today's episode.
    Why?
Because you already know first-hand just how "life changing" (yes, I said it) Marie Kondo's simple decluttering process can be.
By sharing a simple focusing question, "Does this item spark joy?", she makes the entire process easy.
When it comes to bringing new vitality into our lives, there's nothing like clearing your space and getting rid of anything that isn't supporting joy.
The act of decluttering can also free up an incredible amount of energy and cause some pretty amazing shifts to happen (both internally and externally).
When it comes to your business, the freed up energy can then be channeled into your most important projects and tasks to keep them moving along.
In this episode (part 2 of our joy series) we're going to go step-by-step through the Konmari Method and apply it to our business and personal activities.
Instead of looking at stuff however, we're going to look at our commitments, activities, and even our workflow as a whole.
When we identify activities on our calendar that don't spark joy, we're going to remove them from our calendar.
Because, as we've already learned in part 1, we'll never arrive at an experience of joy if we're experiencing frustration, overwhelm, and unhappiness along the way.
    Quote of the Week:
When you surround yourself with possessions that spark joy, you'll create a home and life you love." ~ Marie Kondo  [When you fill your schedule with activities that spark joy, you'll create a business and life you love.]

  • Joy Is The End And The Means | ETHX 064
Sometimes I think I should just go ahead and rename the podcast to, "The joy podcast" :)
Because, it seems like that's what I talk about so frequently on the show.
But, as you already know, there's a good reason for that.
Joy is our essential nature -- our true nature.
It's also what we need more of in the world.
And, the only way it comes into the world is through us.
Lot's of of spiritually-minded teachers remind us of the importance of cultivating joy in our daily lives.
After reading Eckhart Tolle's, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, one of the messages that stuck with me was him sharing the three essential qualities for a happy life.  He says they are joy, enthusiasm, and acceptance.
Abraham-Hicks tells us, "the purpose of life is joy."
And, a few weeks ago I dedicated an entire podcast to joy, and how to find it.
In that episode I shared the ideas of some masters and their thoughts on how to find joy (hint: it's in the service of others).
In this two-part series, I'm going to offer some real-world ways you can apply the incredible benefits of living in the spirit of joy to enhance our experience.
In this episode we're focusing on the idea that we can only arrive at joy if we are in the spirit of joy every step of our journey.
In tomorrow's episode, we're going to look at how to apply the Konmari method to our work and life in general.

Three years ago I clipped an article from a local magazine about a life coach who helps her clients design and live their dream life.
That life coach was Michelle Harris.
I recently reached out to Michelle and invited her to be a guest on the show to share some of the tools and techniques she uses in her coaching.

  • A Simple Way To Live In The End | ETHX 062
On today's episode I share a simple way you can "live in the end", as Neville Goddard recommends.
This is important, because when we want to create change in any area of our lives, we first have to create a change in our consciousness, and also in the way we feel.
One way to do this is to think, and more importantly, feel like the change has already taken place.
You can do this by asking yourself this question: How will I feel when I am / I do / I have ________?
Then you fill in the blank with who you want to be, what you want to do, and what you want to have.
This question can help you feel your way into the experiences you want to have in life.
It can help you get in to the feeling state (and stay there) of your realized goal more easily.
Another way to shift your energy is to think about who you are now, what you do now, and what you have now in contrast with who you were, what you did, and what you had 5, 10, or 15 years ago.
This exercise can help you see that things have in fact moved for you and renew your faith in the creative process as a whole.
Doing this can also help you see that you really do move in the direction of what you focus on, and that it just takes some time for the shift to happen.
Sometimes, as we're moving toward new goals and dreams, we can feel like we're not getting anywhere or things aren't moving, when in fact they are.
Gaining a broader perspective of our life can help us see that we are always moving in the direction of what we want.
We just need to stay focused on what we want, and have faith in the process.
The more faith and belief we have in the process, the faster we move.

  • Keeping My Crazy In Check | ETHX 061
What a roller coaster ride this week's been.
Well, I guess it hasn't been THAT crazy.  Just a bit crazier than usual.
    Here's what went down.
If you recall, last week I announced I was changing the name of my online store (which I did).
After switching everything over and stepping back to see how it all looked and felt, I decided to change it back again.
At least for now anyway, so I can just let everything sit for a bit and see how it feels for a while.
This whole incident has made it fairly clear I haven't been doing a very good job of keeping my crazy in check ;)
And by crazy I mean my obsessive compulsive side.
Yes, I know, as hard as it is to believe, I do in fact have an obsessive compulsive side.
There, I said it.  I feel much better now.
    But here's the thing.
I'm not overly concerned about what has gone down.
In fact, I don't really care at all.
Sure, I would have rather used the time spent on changing everything over and then back over in other ways, but that's just how it goes.
There is one thing this incident has shown me.  And that is that I've been off center for a while now, and this past week everything just intensified.
In many ways, I attribute this whole thing to the fact that I'm moving into unchartered territory and pushing toward a long-time goal -- which was opening the store.
I've definitely felt way out of my comfort zone since I did that, and this past week everything kind of came to a head with it.
Luckily, I had made an appointment for a Transcendental Meditation check up for Sunday.
It was just what I needed to help me reset and get my head back in the game.
It’s been over a year since I’ve gotten a checkup.
It reminded me just how important this practice is to my overall well-being and effectiveness in life.
In this episode I share the whole story with you.

  • Self-Worth And Creating Without Permission | ETHX 060
As you may know, I recently opened an online store that offers products and apparel with a lot of the messages I talk about here on the show and in my books.
It's been a lot of fun (and also challenging) getting this online store up and running.
When it came to choosing a name for the store, I spent quite a lot of time contemplating what to call it.
In the end I had settled on Enhancing the Human Experience Store, which worked just fine, since it was aligned with the podcast and already had some momentum.
But after seeing the finished store up and running, I've decided to change the name.
Sometimes the only way to know if something we're thinking of doing is going to work or not is to go ahead and do it and then step back and see what it looks like.
When I did that with the store, I realized the name wasn't quite the right fit for what I want to build.
I'm still excited about the products and apparel however, nothing will change there.
Everything will still be designed and curated especially for conscious creators just like you.
I'm talking about apparel and products you'll not only want to wear and use, but things that will also remind you of your ability to consciously create and live your very best life.
A big part of why this happened was due to my own fear of playing bigger and allowing myself to create without permission.
So, yesterday I set about changing the name of the store to simply gmp.
In doing this, I'm laying the foundation to introduce and grow a line of products and apparel that is an expression of who I am and what I feel is important to share with the world.
Needless to say, doing this is a bit scary.
But, in the words of Mr. Jack Canfield, "Oh, what the heck, do it anyway."
I actually had toyed with doing this during the initial development phase of the store, but I dismissed it for reasons I talk about in this episode (primarily revolving around self-worth and self-readiness issues--bogus, I know).
So in today's episode, I share my experience with this change in the hopes that by sharing it, you might avoid something similar in your own business and life.
Ultimately, it's a story about doing what we want to do whether we feel we've earned the right to do it or not.
It's also about making the often courageous decision to "live in the end", as Neville Goddard suggests, when it comes to designing and building the life we want to live.
