When life is hard, the voice of self-pity says "Why is this happening? No one is helping me. I'm all alone. I am not loved. I do not have enough."
When life is hard, the voice of creation says "What now? Can you help me this way next time? I trust there is enough. I trust that it will be good."
Catherine's dad's favorite Easter song is an old hymn called In the Garden . Each chorus starts "And He (God) walks with me and He talks with me and He tells me I am His own. . ."
When life is hard, we either tune into the voice of self-pity or the voice of creation. Catherine encourages listeners to destroy self-pity by creating. By tuning into the voice of God, just like the hymn says.
To discover what kind of creating gives purpose to your life, here are some questions to think through:
- What has caused you pain or broken your heart in your life?
- How has this pain allowed you to have compassion/get angry/makes you sad about a group of people or a certain problem?
- Repent of any agreements with the enemy’s lies or untruths as a result of this pain.
- Receive healing by giving it to God and asking HIm to make this sadness and grief come untrue.
- Ask God to replace the pain and brokenness with prupose by asking HIm what He wants you to know and what HE wants you to do with the pain.
The books Catherine references are Switch On Your Brain by Dr. Caroline Leaf, The Power of TED by David Emerald, and Where'd You Go Bernadette? by Maria Semple.
