They promote "points systems".
They restrict your food intake by giving you a small list of "compliant foods".
They swap out your previous high calorie/low nutrient breakfast for an overpriced protein shake with a multivitamin in it.
Or maybe they give the diet a badass name that make you feel like a cavewoman.
The bottom line is this, take in less, burn more, lose weight.
THAT isn't groundbreaking science. That has always been and will always be the way bodies burn fat.

In order for a fad diet to flourish they need to have a “leg up” on the competition. In some way they need to promise you it's easier and faster than anything you’ve ever tried before.
They are playing on your emotions because humans usually make quick decisions from an emotional space, not critical thought.

In order to deliver on the “easier and faster” promise, they need to cut your calories as low as 900/day.
This isn’t sustainable. It will destroy your metabolism. You will binge. You are in worse shape than when you started.
You simply CANNOT lose a bunch of weight that way and expect to keep it off or look good for that matter. You MUST fuel your body with the right amount of carbs, fat, and protein throughout the day to create sustainable weight loss.
