  • Chef Fernando Ruiz: From a troubled past to the kitchen by way of culinary school and beating Bobby Flay!
Chef Fernando Ruiz who recently beat Bobby Flay on the popular Food Network show Beat Bobby Flay joins Enterprise Radio.
This culinary genius overcame the odds by leaving a life of gangs, drugs, arms trafficking and prison to becoming a highly sought after chef and media darling. He is now the Executive Chef at The Lodge and Ranch at Chama Land & Cattle Company.
Listen to host Eric Dye & guest Chef Fernando Ruiz discuss the following:
    * Tell us a little bit about your cooking style and your Chiles en Nogada, the dish that ultimately tipped you over the scale to beat Bobby Flay on the Food Network’s hit series Beat Bobby Flay?* Where did you learn to cook besides culinary school?  Did you always show an interest in cooking when you were younger?* You are very open about your past.  You were involved with a gang, drugs, weapons trafficking and you went to prison.  Can you tell us a little bit about that experience and what changed to make you the success story that you are today?* You are not stranger to cooking shows. Besides Beat Bobby Flay, you also won on the uber-popular show Chopped and Guys Grocery Games.  Can you tell us about those experiences?* Tell us what you are doing today in terms of your career and what we can expect next from you?
Summary: Chef Fernando Ruiz is living proof that no matter what your circumstances are in life, everyone has the ability to change.  Better choices, hard work and finding a passion in life can ultimately lead to success and happiness no matter what the odds.
Chef Fernando Ruiz now holds the distinction of “beating Bobby Flay”.  Ruiz recently competed against the legendary chef on the popular Food Network show BEAT BOBBY FLAY and to the delight of culinary fans everywhere, took home the top honor with his chiles en nogada dish.  The New Mexico based chef gives all the credit to his wife, Michelle Romero who encourages him and pushes him to be his very best everyday.  Ruiz says of his wife, “It is true that behind every great man is an even greater woman.”
No stranger to the Food Network, Ruiz first gained notoriety by winning the competition show GUYS GROCERY GAMES.  A year later, with more support and encouragement from his amazing wife, he returned to the popular cable network to compete on yet another show, CHOPPED.  Once again, he did not disappoint by winning this contest too.
Ruiz was born in Phoenix, Arizona. His early years were spent in Phoenix and on the family ranch in Mexico.  At the age of 13, he started running with a gang, trafficking weapons and drugs. At the age of 16 he got his first taste of “reality” when he was arrested for possession of weapons and drugs.  At eighteen he got “busted” again. Ruiz spent his 20th and 21st birthdays in jail. It was while incarcerated that he earned his G.E.D.  Upon release, he went straight into culinary school, graduating in 1999.
    Fernando worked in Vail,

  • Private equity investor and figurative sculptor, George Petrides and his case for “dual careers”

George Petrides joins Enterprise Radio to discuss how he has built a dual career as both a private equity investor and figurative sculptor. When he’s not focused on banking, he creates sculptures from live models and his imagination to convey the beauty and imperfection of the human body and soul.”

Listen to host Eric Dye & guest George Petrides discuss the following:

    * How do you combine your business life with your artistic life?* What are your goals when you make art?* Who are some of the artists who inspire you – historical and current?* As to galleries and upcoming shows, where is your work displayed currently and what is next?* What advice would you offer to entrepreneurs (or anyone) hoping to “follow their bliss”?

Collectors and critics have described his figurative sculptures as “beautiful”, “emotive”, and “lifelike” and unique to most figurative sculpture they have seen before. Working from life models, he uses mixed materials – clay, metals, acids, paint, wood – to convey the beauty and imperfection of the human body and soul.

As a child George was drawn to sketching and watercolors. He put the artistic path on hold as he earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard in Classics and his dual MBA and MA from Stanford. He worked as a successful investment banker for many years, occasionally attending classes at NY art schools. In recent years, he has been devoting more of this time to making figurative art, mostly sculpture but also drawing and painting.

His influences include Classical Greek (which he grew up with in his hometown of Athens), the later European sculptors who were influenced by it such as Auguste Rodin and Aristide Maillol, and currently working sculptor/painters such as Lupertz, Baselitz, Shutte, and Houseago.

His most recent exhibition at Van Der Plas Gallery in New York City was a success, including having his piece “Alex Withdrawn” lauded by Artcritical as well as by two sculptors represented in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Van Der Plas continues to offer that piece which is being issued as 7 unique variants + 2 artists proofs. His next show is scheduled for May 2020 at the Greek Consulate of New York.
