  • Why Collaborative Divorce is a Route Worth Considering - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN
When people think of divorce, they may become overwhelmed with anxiety, fear the bickering and ill will, and dread the lawyers who will drag things out and create hostility between you as a couple. The fact is that there are many lawyers out there who make these fears and stereotypes a reality, but there are also lawyers who pride themselves in making the process of a divorce as painless, and as human as possible. Some of the lawyers who most personify this, are the ones who practice what is known as “Collaborative Divorce.” What is collaborative divorce? It Is when the couple works together with their attorneys to come to a resolution in a positive and results oriented way. Individuals can agree to all details, come to a resolution, and never must step foot in a courtroom, which is very attractive to many.
A collaborative lawyer can only work in a collaborative divorce setting. If the couple becomes contentious, refuses to bend or compromise, or makes it clear that they cannot work in a productive manner, the lawyers must recuse themselves, and lawyers who handle what we think of traditional divorce must take over. However, this should also be a wakeup call and defining moment to each member of the couple. They need to look at their role in things not working out, and if they are capable and willing to try again in a more productive and positive manner.
When a couple enters a collaborative divorce setting, they start by signing a contract. This contract is a written commitment stating that the promise to practice good faith and fairmindedness in their interactions and negotiations. They also promise to be transparent with all documentation, finances, and needed paperwork. The couple and their lawyers meet in a neutral setting, and there is no third-party mediator involved. It is simply the couple and their collaborative attorneys, and a promise by all to be constructive and open-minded in their dealings. Working in good faith, and with a collaborative mindset is best for each member of the couple, their children, and all their futures. No one wants to go through the process of negotiations, only to have them implode and must start over with new attorneys, and from a more adversarial stand-point.
Collaborative divorce gives each party a chance to listen more than they argue, and explain themselves in a way that they feel they are not being judged. Each person can explain what they feel they need and why, and the collaborative attorneys are able to suggest solutions to meet each person’s needs in a fair and equitable way. Another benefit of this process is the ability to bring in additional resources as needed, to help keep the process moving forward in a productive way, and to keep all information out in the open for everyone. Some of these additional resources can include a therapist, an accountant, and an assessor. With both members of the couple working with these individuals, they know that everything is above board, and that they are getting the best information for which to make decisions based on.
If you are about to start the process of divorce, Collaborative Divorce is something that you should really consider, especially if children are involved. It takes much of the anger and adversarial feelings out of the process, it gets both members of the couple working towards the same goals, and it allows each person to be heard and understood in a way they may not have been with traditional divorce. Many couples I have known, who have gone this route, have been very grateful that they made this decision. It made a difficult process and situation as amenable as possible, and it let each person walk away with some dignity and respect for themselves, and their ex-partner.

  • How Commercial Development Works - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN
We’re driving down a main arterial in town when we see a new building in the early stages of construction. A few weeks after that, it’s starting to actually look like something other than just a random assemblage of boards and nails. A few weeks after that, it looks like an almost complete gas station, drugstore, or restaurant. And then, finally, one day we drive down the street and see cars in the newly paved parking lot and a flashing neon sign that proclaims the store to be “OPEN.” It may seem like the building went from an idea to an actual place remarkably quick, but the truth is, commercial construction is rarely as quick as it may seem to outsides, and there are way too many moving parts to ever call it “simple.”
    How cities attract businesses
There’s a weird little tango that happens between cities and developers. A developer will announce he has a parcel of land available, and the city may start talking to the developer to see if there are any interested parties. Obviously, some types of construction are considered more desirable than others. Most cities would much rather have a large chain restaurant with a proven track record come into town than they would a small, independently-owned yoga studio. That doesn’t mean they want the yoga studio to fail, but they want safe, reliable investments first and foremost. Cities will often poll residents about the stores or restaurants they would most likely to see come to town, then actively start trying to lure the most popular brands into town to work with local developers. There may be a promise of tax breaks or other incentives to get certain places to come to town, especially if it’s a business that plans to hire a lot of local residents.
Interested citizens can usually head to City Hall and try to look at permits for development. They may not tell you everything, but they’ll give you some good clues about the types of businesses interested in your locale. So if you go to city hall and see a construction company out of Kalamazoo, MI has been hired to build a new Asian fusion restaurant on the edge of downtown, then you can start looking for signs with that construction company’s name whenever you’re in that part of town.
    Breaking ground
Things like zoning laws will also play a critical role. Certain parts of town are zoned as residential only because town leaders don’t want angry citizens at their door asking why there’s a strip club being built across the street from their house. There are zones that are purely for industry, as well as zones designed for mixed use, which is just what it sounds like. Companies can usually ask for and receive a waiver known as a zoning variance, but it’s by no means a given.
Who will actual build the place, though? It will be a mix of contractors and subcontractors, likely headed by one general contractor. There may be one subcontractor charged with getting forklifts from a place in Akron, OH, and another assigned to make sure they hirea team from Cincinnati to come in and properly dispose of any hazardous materials that are left behind. If one group isn’t up to snuff, then the whole project can be delayed. There can also be delays because of weather and permitting issues. But when everything finally comes together, it can appear pretty much seamless to those on the outside.

  • You Have the Power of Prevention: Diabetes - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN
For every human there is an old debate of ‘nature versus nature,’ meaning we are the way we are because of their genetic make-up (nature) or because of their environment (nurture). This debate applies to everything from a person’s personality and behaviors to his or her health and well-being. Take, for example, if someone is more introverted, versus extroverted. The question is, was the person born introverted or did he or she become so through life’s experiences, or is it a combination of both? With most personality traits, the degree to which you are the way you are is genetic, but the way you are raised has an effect on how you may feel in social settings. So, it is a little of both. ‘Nature versus nurture’ is a complex debate, and sometimes there is a lot of grey area.
‘Nature vs Nurture’ and Your Health
When we talk about a person’s health, the ‘nature versus nature’ debate is a little more black-and-white, but with modern medicine and technology the issue is still widely debated. Simply stated, you are either born with an ailment or you contract one from coming into contact with it or you develop one from external environmental factors. For example, there are two types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes you are born with and cannot be prevented. Type 2 diabetes can be prevented, or at least delayed by healthy diet, exercise, and possibly medication. How can you reverse diabetes? With resources like Virta Health, which is an online speciality clinic that guides people on how to reverse diabetes. They take an individualized approach to diabetes reversal that is based on rigorous research and real-life scenarios. We can prevent diabetes from worsening and there are resources out there that are safe and sustainable for diabetes reversal.
Some Reversal Options fre Better Than Others
Diabetics now have resources to deal with their disease. Some diabetics opt for bariatric surgery to reverse Type 2 diabetes, but this surgery is expensive and can have life-threatening side effects. Low calorie diets (or semi-starvation diets) are another option for diabetics to reverse their disease but are not sustainable and lead to difficulty with weight maintenance. The third treatment for reversing diabetes is what’s called a ketogenic diet, which is nutritionally viable and sustainable enough to follow for years and years.
    Alcoholics Anonymous for Diabetics
Think about it this way. If you are an alcoholic, you are born an alcoholic. Negative environmental triggers can encourage your alcoholism to worsen, or positive influences can help lessen its effects. Alcoholics cannot ‘cure’ their disease, much like diabetics cannot ‘cure’ theirs. However, both diseases can be treated to prevent them from worsening. Alcoholics have professional resources like Alcoholics Anonymous and treatment centers, such as Beachway.com, to deal with addictions or alcohol/drug abuse. Whether you are recovering from alcoholism or diabetes, you do not want to recover alone. You may have been born with a certain genetic makeup that makes you who you are, but you can choose to live in an environment that is supportive and nurturing. You have the resources to get help today.

  • 5 tips to choosing the right merchant processing partner - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

If you are a business owner then you know the importance of having a good merchant processing partner. Staying on a cash-only basis may lead to some security measures, with such things as thefts, both from an employee and from robbers, so it’s always a good idea to have a merchant account so that you can start accepting credit card payments.

If you are still in the process of looking for a merchant account to partner with, check out the tips below to help you.

    1. Ask for recommendations – there’s nothing better than first-hand information from friends. If you have colleagues who recently partnered with a merchant account, ask them if they can recommend the same company to you. Don’t hesitate to inquire your acquaintance has had any problem at all so you can know which to expect. You can also go online and read up on forums for any recommendations.
    2. Do your research and compare all the merchants you’re eyeing – narrow down your choices, and make sure to compare all their services and prices. Don’t just get the first company you find just because you find their website very professional looking or their account representative gives a very convincing sales talk. There are many questions you can ask in order to be assured that you are getting a company that you can build a good relationship with.
    3. Choose a company that has had years of experience  – while there is nothing wrong with getting a newly-built company, there’s still something to be said for companies that have had years to build its reputation and client roster, especially when the nature of your business is categorized as high risk. Those in the marijuana industry for example, always have a hard time with banks, but companies such as highrisk.solutions have been helping such industries as a merchant processing partner for more or less 20 years. With those years of experience under their belt, you know that you are getting quality service for your money.
    4. Ask about all the fees they will require and the processing time for the transactions– make sure to inquire about all the charges that you will get for the transactions. Most good, reputable companies will only charge a fee for every transaction, and other fees, such as monthly fees, and set-up fees are no longer necessary. Do ask also how long it takes for the transaction to be cleared as a cash flow is important for any business.
    5. Make sure they will offer constant support  – it may not be soon, but eventually, your business might need support in the process. Make sure that when you look for a processing partner, they are willing to offer you customer support anytime, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  While email support may be available anytime, it would also be ideal to have live support. This way you are able to communicate with a real person and explain the problems that you have.

    7. What Are the Advantages of Self-Publishing? - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN
When you’re thinking about the idea of self-publishing and you want to print your own book, you naturally wonder what the advantages of it may be? There are several other directions to go towards, such as the all-eBook route, using Amazon, or seeking an agent and letting them find a publisher on your behalf. However, you’ll be giving up a considerable part of the profit potential into the bargain, even if they don’t even handle the marketing for you.
Here are a few of the advantages of self-publishing.
      Full Control of Design
When a legacy publisher takes you on as an author, their marketing team puts together the eventual cover and inside flap for a book printing run in paperback and hardcover respectively. Indeed, they’ll usually opt for different covers in each country or region and may even use cheap book printing, which results in a cover style or appearance that you dislike entirely. However, you don’t have control over the design of the print books or the inside layout, fonts used, or style.
Sometimes, the lack of design choices is because of the book printers that the publishing house has chosen to use. It could be that the full-colour cover is too expensive and doesn’t suit the lower-quality paper stock that’s used with the hardcover book. In other cases, you just dislike the cover designs entirely and you’re stuck with your name (or pen name) on them, regardless. It can be very frustrating for new authors!
      Faster Publication
With self-publishing, there’s no waiting in line with other signed authors who already have their book scheduled for publication ahead of your own. Publishers can take a year or more to shepherd a book through copy editing, typesetting, and final publication. The wheels of progress seem to turn very slowly. For self-publishers, this isn’t the case.
As long as you can afford to pay for your own print run and cover design, then it can be a matter of a handful of weeks to go from a finished manuscript to a batch of books ready for sale. There is nothing like seeing your book in print as a physical thing that no one can take away from you. The sense of achievement for first-time authors is palpable.
Make the Decision; Sometimes Publishers Dislike Your Book
Whether you’ve just completed a non-fiction book covering a topic that is difficult for a disinterested person to get into or it’s a novel with unusual characters that don’t fit into a set architype, sometimes traditional publishers just don’t get it. There are stories galore about publishers turning down first-time authors because their book was misunderstood or outright disliked, who then went on to great success.
Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad, Poor Dad was self-published because no publisher thought it had potential, as it was unlike other personal finance books at the time. The Chicken Soup for the Soul series of books couldn’t find a home either until self-publishing and the two tenacious authors worked tirelessly to promote their first title. Even John Grisham’s first novel, A Time to Kill had a hard time finding a receptive publisher.
      Control the Rights
Controlling your book’s rights allows you to decide in what format(s) your book will be sold. Many published authors are now stuck with publishers who won’t reissue a book that needs updating or that haven’t issued an eBook version that the market is clamouring for. Even big-name authors are finding the yoke of a publishing house beginning to chafe a little as their lack of options becomes more evident.
      Potentially Earn More
Getting your books printed initially costs money out of your own pocket, however, some authors are using crowdfunding now instead of publisher’s advances to pre-sell their book. A higher percentage of the sale price is returned to the author because they’re acting as both the …

    9. Ways to Improve Your Health - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

It’s estimated that less of 3% of Americans are totally healthy. Unless you’re in that lucky 3%, you’re along for the ride with the rest of us, suffering from major or minor health issues. While many people don’t suffer from a major health concern, most of us still deal on a regular basis with health issues we wish we could do without. The good news is, we often can. There are plenty of ways to improve our overall health, and it starts with small changes.

The first step towards improving your health is investigation. Like a detective finding out who committed the crime, you need to understand exactly what’s going wrong in your body. Healthcare professionals can be consulted, either in person or through the web, and you can research articles about your health condition to detect what might be causing it. The more minor your health issue is, the more likely it’s harder to identify, or to know the root cause. It will be hard to get help or treatment until you know what you need to fix, so investigate away. If it’s something subtle, like heavy metal poisoning or a rare form of anemia, it may take awhile for you to discover what your body needs.

The next step towards improving your health is to change up your habits. Changes to your everyday practices can have a huge impact on your health. Many people discover that a change in diet is all they needed to make their health problems go away. Some people discover that their weird, unexplainable health issues, issues doctors couldn’t solve for them, disappear as soon as they swear off diet soda. Others find that their fatigue and nausea vanish once they switch to a paleo diet. There are many dietary schemes out there, including eating for your blood type, but at least one diet change is supported by scientific research: a vegan diet can rewrite at least 500 of your genes. That’s a cure no medication can match.

If a simple change in diet isn’t enough to cure your health problems, then medication or surgery are likely your next step. There are plenty of natural alternatives to medication, some that are proven to be effective, such as CBD oil. So if taking a prescription doesn’t appeal to you, you can investigate natural solutions first. If your health concern is something that needs to be cured through surgery, such as Dermatochalasis, you can start consulting medical professionals and looking into options now.

Life can be complicated, and none of us need health issues further complicating it. As much as we can, we should be taking action to recover from the negative impact of poor health. Many of the minor health issues Americans deal with can be adjusted through a lifestyle change, and many of us can experience brighter futures if we take advantage of our options.

    10. How to organize your personal finances - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

To effectively manage your finances, it is vital that you have all of your information in order. If you are someone who shoves their invoices into the nearest drawer, throws their receipts in the trash, and fails to check through their weekly income, now is the time to make a change. Introducing order to your financial plans will help you to work towards a happy and healthy future. It will also save you from feeling stressed about your outgoing costs or spiraling into a panic the moment that you are faced with an unexpected bill. Even if you are currently in control of your capital, there is always room for improvement. Below are five tips that will help to ensure your finances are healthier than ever.

      Use technology to your advantage

If you are going to stay on top of your finances, you will need to make sure that everything is working in your favor. One of the best ways for you to do this is by engaging with technology. Online banking provides you with the opportunity to monitor your finances on the go. It also allows you to set up standing orders, evaluate your outgoing expenses, and transfer money into other accounts. Along with online banking, you should endeavor to download helpful finance apps onto your smartphone or tablet.

Keep a record of your earnings

You will also need to keep a clear record of your earnings. It will make it much easier for you to complete your taxes and to ensure you are never living beyond your means. Why not use a check stub maker to provide you with a hard copy of your income? It will come in handy if you ever have reason to believe you are being underpaid. Once you have received your check stubs, create a file in your home and update it on a regular basis.

      Establish a monthly budget

Another step is to create a monthly budget. It’s the perfect opportunity for you to confront your spending habits head-on. If you are going to reduce your outgoing expenses, you will need to force yourself to justify every purchase. You can’t afford to waste money on unnecessary items. If you are struggling to stay motivated, why not set yourself a target for the end of each month? Then, if you meet your target, you can reward yourself with a small prize.

      Increase your income

You should also be on the lookout for opportunities to increase your income. If you have the time, you could take on a second job such as dog walking or childminding. Alternatively, you could ask for a promotion at work, or seek out extra responsibilities and negotiate a pay rise.

      Evaluate your savings accounts

Finally, you should evaluate your savings accounts and work out whether or not you could be getting a better rate of interest elsewhere. There are even some banks that provide you with a bonus for switching to them. You could also look into investment opportunities such as stocks and shares, property, or start-up businesses. Why not set aside an hour each week to work through your options and decide on your next step?

    11. How to Make Your Business Profitable This Year - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN
At the conclusion of every year, it can be a difficult time for business owners to face the financial facts. Sometimes, a seemingly successful year doesn’t always translate to profitability. Even if a business has managed to fund the company’s expenses responsibly, it can still be challenging to turn a profit by the end of the fiscal calendar.
Fortunately, increasing profits is a shared goal among business owners, and therefore, plenty of companies are willing to share their success strategies. There are plenty of different ways to go about achieving the goal of profitability. If you are a business owner or entrepreneur, here are the business growth strategies that will lead to increased profits this year.
      Keep Track of Your Reputation
One of the most important factors in growing a business and creating a strong customer base is keeping track of your company’s reputation—online, as a brand, and fiscally. Start with your expenses. By reviewing your accounts, including your company versus personal credit cards, you can make sure that all of the various expenses are kept separate, up to date, and on track to be profitable. Often, companies don’t realize the value in signing up for a credit card rewards program, many of which have special programs in place specifically for small businesses.
By reaping rewards from a credit program and being more aware of your track to profitability, you can get the most value out of your inevitable expenses from the year and boost your reputation as a fiscally responsible owner. In addition to your financial reputation, you will also want to make sure your brand’s online reputation is competing with other companies in your industry. Your presence online should always be innovative, modernized, and appealing to new customers.
Use Social Platforms to Convert Leads to Customers
Besides strengthening your company’s reputation, you can also utilize social platforms to attract, convert, and delight customers. Converting leads into customers is a surefire way to increase profits—especially if your customers become recurring clients. With social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube allowing businesses to constantly interact with potential customers, it only makes sense to create new social strategies for the sake of profitability.
This year, a social platform that is certain to grow small businesses is using a blog to convert leads to customers. Many times, businesses will have a blog following of interested clients who have not yet taken the plunge and bought a product or service. By focusing on the blog and enhancing its advertisements, calls to action, landing pages, and offerings, businesses can finally make the sale and bolster profitability one reader at a time.
By boosting your reputation at all times and by using social platforms, business owners and entrepreneurs can take the proper steps towards profitability at the start of every new fiscal year.
