  • Pacific Point Academy, for children with unique learning profiles - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

This episode of Enterprise Radio is brought to you by DesignCrowd.com. Learn more and receive your Enterprise Radio $100 VIP offer when you start your next project.
Listen to interview with host Eric Dye & guest Debbie Shaler Williams discuss the following:

    * For those not familiar with Pacific Point Academy, please give us a brief overview of the school.
    * What inspired you to create Pacific Point Academy?
    * Tell us about the personalized instruction that is a hallmark of Pacific Point Academy.
    * What can parents expect, in terms of quality of education, that Pacific Point Academy will provide?
    * What are your long-term plans for Pacific Point Academy?

I am the mother of two children, one of whom has learning challenges. I whole heartedly understand the struggle to find the right academic and social environment for your child. For years I struggled to find the right place for my son, and for years I felt heartbroken because there were no great options.
My son and I spent endless hours after school driving to tutoring sessions, speech and language therapy, and occupational therapy, all while trying to coordinate a cohesive plan with his teachers. This demand was not only exhausting for my son, but for our entire family. After years of wondering why there was no place in Los Angeles that offered an inclusive option, I decided to build a place that did. I knew it had to be more than a traditional setting. It had to offer all therapies, interventions, and academics under one roof. I wanted this academy to be housed with a collaborative group of therapists, teachers and specialists who came to work each day excited to figure out how to help children learn, progress, and grow.
My dream to create this special place came true with Pacific Point Academy and Learning Center. It offers what no other school does, one-to-one instruction, individually designed to address each child’s strengths and weaknesses, while also providing small group instruction, so our children can learn from each other. Most importantly, Pacific Point Academy and Leaning Center is a place that works closely and thoughtfully with each and every child. We know school-aged children grow and develop quickly. There is no time to waste. A child’s success goes deeper than simply academics and grades. At Pacific Point Academy and Learning Center, we help kids develop and believe in themselves.
I invite you to call or visit and see how special we are! We look forward to assisting you in helping your child find success and reach his or her full potential.

  • Shadetree Sunglasses – Supporting Sustainable Consumerism - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

Nick Sancilio, a Founding Partner at Shadetree Sunglasses that manufactures and sells sustainable and eco friendly wood frame sunglasses joins Enterprise Radio.
This episode of Enterprise Radio is brought to you by DesignCrowd.com. Learn more and receive your Enterprise Radio $100 VIP offer when you start your next project.
Listen to interview with host Eric Dye & guest Nick Sancilio discuss the following:

    * So your company is Shadetree Sunglasses, can you just briefly tell us a little about your company, just kind of what you do and what your product is?
    * Do you have any partners or support with Shadetree?
    * What makes these sunglasses so unique?
    * What kind of marketing have you guys been doing for these and what have you found to be the most successful?
    * How is the conversion rate on the website and do you have any tips for others to help optimize that?
    * Do you have any mentors or small business role models that have inspired you along the way?

So the theatrical the back story around the company on our site here, on our about us page. But here is a little more context and backstory around me personally.
I have been a Millstone, NJ resident now all my life. I graduated from Rutgers in 2011 with a degree in economics and currently work full time in NYC (2+ hours on a bus each way from Millstone, NJ) for a financial technology firm. Commuting for so many hours is both a blessing and a curse in that once I started commuting, I now had 4 hours a day where the only options for entertainment were listen to music, sleep, or learn. And while believe me, I did a lot of the first two options there, I eventually got bored and started listening to podcasts and audio books and that’s really where the inspiration came from to bring this company to life.
So while working in financial technology is a far cry from making and selling sunglasses, I think this has been a great outlet for both the creative and entrepreneurial elements of my personality. Those are two things that just have no place in my little corner (cubicle) of corporate America.
I founded Shadetree earlier this year with two close friends of mine: Scott Pimentel who introduced me to the world of product sales and global sourcing, and Chas Maraldo who was a childhood friend and Millstone resident whom I had recently reconnected with. Chas helps me with all of the technical aspects of building and maintaining a website.
Since launching this year we have really gained a lot of momentum, which has been amazing. We originally launched with 11 style options on our website, and we are looking to finish the summer with closer to 30 unique offerings including some styles made of Cork wood, which are 100% unique to our company and brand. Our goal for next year is to be able to offer between 50-75 unique styles through our site, so needless to say we have a lot of work to do still!

  • KOR Water, makers of innovative water filtration systems - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

Eric Barnes, the Founder and CEO of KOR Water, which makes innovative water filtration systems joins Enterprise Radio.
This episode of Enterprise Radio is brought to you by DesignCrowd.com. Learn more and receive your Enterprise Radio $100 VIP offer when you start your next project.
Listen to interview with host Eric Dye & guest Eric Barnes discuss the following:

    * For the benefit of our listeners, tell us about KOR Water and the Water Fall.
    * What is the inspiration behind the creation of the Water Fall?
    * Tell us more about the design aspect of the Water Fall, or the premium you place on the union between form and function.
    * What are the competitive advantages of the Water Fall?
    * What additional information would you like listeners to know about the Water Fall?

They say necessity is the mother of invention — and so began KOR. Eric Barnes’ wife, Stacey, was the first to tell him that his habit of refilling an old Gatorade bottle was a really bad idea. “It’s a bacterial trap,” she warned, “and you’re not supposed to reuse those bottles.” Yet, after several visits to retail stores, Eric’s failed search to find a reusable bottle that he would actually use left him unsatisfied — and intrigued. Bottled water sales continued to explode as those companies redesigned their packaging and marketed stories of water from exotic locations, yet the practice of sustainable hydration (i.e., drinking from reusable bottles) remained stagnant. It was becoming common knowledge that bottled water waste was a major environmental problem with four out of every five empty bottles being land-filled, but that fact by itself was not changing consumer behavior.

What if the tactics of design and story used by bottled water were employed in the reusable category? Why couldn’t great industrial design — where form and function are meticulously analyzed — be incorporated into a new product line that anticipated the user’s every need? There was no law that stated environmentally friendly products must deliver less convenience and inferior performance, yet most “green” alternatives often delivered that experience.
Eric was no stranger to taking on a challenge, particularly one with which he had no experience. “One can see with new eyes what others miss” — or at least that’s how he rationalized diving head first into the hydration market. Previously, Eric had launched several Internet startups, including Ivysport.com and ePrep.com, but KOR felt more like a mission than a company.
Soon, Eric was introduced to Paul Shustak by a mutual friend. Paul was engaged in a successful product management career with experience at Microsoft, Sony and Adobe. Having personally experienced the same divide between great design and sustainable products, Paul and Eric joined forces and KOR began the journey to develop and launch its first product in early 2007.
KOR sought far and wide to find the best design partner to help make the company’s vision a reality. In RKS Design, a world-class design firm based in Southern California, KOR discovered a team that deeply understood how KOR’s focus on design could be the driver that motivated change, creating not just products, but also a company and a movement.
KOR brought over 100 functional design requirements to the project,

  • Reason only 1 in 600 patents are profitable - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

Warren Wilson, a successful inventor joins Enterprise Radio to share his secrets to successful inventing with you & the reason only 1 in 600 patents are profitable.
This episode of Enterprise Radio is brought to you by DesignCrowd.com. Learn more and receive your Enterprise Radio $100 VIP offer when you start your next project.
Listen to interview with host Eric Dye & guest Warren Wilson discuss the following:

    * What is the real reason only 1 in 600 patents are ever profitable?
    * What was your biggest failure, and what did you learn from it?
    * How did you come up with the idea for BetterBlocks?
    * What was one of the keys to your success?
    * So you have a great idea or invention……………what now?
    * How do you come up with ideas for inventions?

My inventing story started in my backyard shed. I had idea for a children’s toy – BetterBlocks – which, to my surprise, went on to become a $45 million business! Commercially-speaking it was my biggest shot. In its prime – I am proud to admit –it gave Lego Corporation a bit of a headache. At first I didn’t know what to think: was I a smart cookie? A one-hit wonder? Or just a failure who got lucky? Looking back, I guess I was all those things plus some………… But what was clearly shown to me was the creative process of “inventing” is a powerful process, which, when combined with work and education, results in abundance in any area that it is applied to!
I have experienced the highs of creating a $45m business to the lows of being bankrupt! Both experiences and all the ones in the middle have taught me great lessons in life.
Life for me has been an adventure. When I was quite young my father was permanently incapacitated with a stroke and soon after my mother passed away. One of the benefits to me was I grew up through my teenage years with out a lot of interference. I could make my own path in life. However one of the gifts parents can give their children, the gift of experience and wisdom I sorely missed out on but in saying that the encouraging of my creativity, I received their support in spades.
Now, what I really enjoy doing is helping anyone who has an idea bring it to life in whatever way I can.
