Loved the modern interpretation. It was even more interesting to see how it is connected with the original story line. this one made me think about what was the thinking and the rationale and what message the movie intends to give. Left me with mind puzzling possibility.
What I liked about this movie is the message it carries and the way you can interpret it. There are multiple interpretations possible.
(1) Ahalaya and Gautam Sadhu are trapping people and making them in to dolls. Why are they doing it? Maybe because they are evil and possess evil powers. This is where they are bad.
(2) All the people that come to this haunted house gets converted in to doll, but why are people coming to this place? Maybe all of them came with different needs, but in the short film they couldn't cover that.
And now coming to the interpretation that really appealed to me, even though they say this is a modern take on Ahalaya's story, I feel the way it is presented is really good.
(3) Men rape/molest women and we have seen umpteen cases in the recent past, the main sufferer has been women, similar to Ahalaya's story where because of Indra, she was cursed to turn in to stone. So, here Gautam Rishi (Sadhu) and Ahalaya try to test morality of man by trying to seduce them and see if they give in. To create a protective shield, Ahalaya is blessed by Gautam Rishi that anyone who tries to get intimate with her will turn in to doll. That's the punishment. So, if Indra Sen wouldn't have given in to the temptation of enjoying time with Ahalaya, he wouldn't have turned in to doll.
