Moving from one sector to a new sector.

When dealing with different customers from different sectors over the years. You sometimes see a ‘complete group’ who will not help toe the line.

Now I have never found a problem with this sector of engineering ‘the welder.’

A construction 🚧 company from Ireland, bought into engineering in the UK because they had a lot of plant & equipment, which they wanted to make their own steel buckets, digger with pins as they always had to be replaced.

They bought the business but in the end they just couldn’t gel with welder. They apparently had a law unto themselves.

It was that bad they sold the whole shop and moved back to Ireland.

Now there’s probably more to the reason but they felt they needed to stick to construction 🏗 and leave the engineering to the engineers.

We say each to their own.

Though Elon Musk was not an engineer but now he builds rockets 🚀

Go Figure.

From Sub-Contractor Engineering to Business Product Entrepreneur and the reason Why?

From start-up conventional machine shop to CNC sub-contractor to Entrepreneur, product design, patent pending, physical product, manufacturing supplier.

Never the smoothest of transitions and probably needs to be rocky for you to do the change. As it’s change you must.

Fleshing out the difference between being a True Entrepreneur and running a business, being a sub-contractor.

It’s a lot to do with risk & calculated risk

Over the years we help many an entrepreneurial idea 💡. We got it to work and showed them the engineering route, Machinary/plant investment required, at the sub-contractors risk bye-the-way, and designed the best possible, fit-for-purpose, cycle-time.

Back then, it was very much us, teaching ‘the buyer’ how to be an entrepreneur.

All they had was marketing & packaging & negotiating.

Guess what?

That’s now the bit we are still learning, as we now go, with the idea 💡, as the buyer, to marketer, to the packaging, then to distributor/buyer negotiations.

Zoom! Zoom!

Then your a True Entrepreneur.

Because?

“If they can do it.....So can we/you.”

As we promote our engineering endeavour with clear iterations to various quangos, organisations that could’ve, should’ve helped, by coordinated, collaboration, to get our projects moving.

You wonder about the fundamentals of your Math?

You can only think, those who get serious funding, must have better Math than our projects?

Yet when challenged, there is no comparison, rhyme or reason, and the math just doesn’t compare.

Not even close.

Then you ask, “What the hell is going on!”

We just keep going for the long haul because each day, climate, circumstances and conditions our Math is getting stronger, quicker, better and Smarter.

It’s all a game.

The longer your in it, the more you realise

Is it the communicator or the listener?

A few moons ago I was booking a flight to Atlanta, Georgia 🇬🇪 and then onto West Coast LAX. I needed to ring the airline provider in Atlanta with a timeline question.

My question was;

“What terminal would be my 19.00 hours connection to LAX?”

The southern droll voice replied;

“We don’t do military time?”

And put the phone down.

Two things;

We both had accents and I was not familiar, at that time, with the term ‘Military Time.’

This happen a few times and ironically with the same operate.

Eventually the penny dropped.

I had to say 7.00 pm, in the evening.

Who’s right and who’s wrong?

The communicator or the listener?

The give and take, the two-way in conversation, one of us had to yield, adjust, and think it through to a result.

You end up learning a lot and it makes it easier for the next time you have a communication problem.

Just Be ready.

Because, it will happen.

“Don’t be scared of losing customers or clients.”

When you are first setting out and I can recall two pieces of advice;

The one ☝️ above and also this when asking for advice at Chamber of Commerce meeting in California about starting a business;

“Just-do-it.”

Regarding customer or clients, they were basically saying;

“Don’t think the worlds going to end, if you lose business and the other just-do-it was to encourage you not to holdback, just make a decision, go for it.”

On many an occasion, you’ll end up reflecting on the ‘Whys and How’s’ for all your business dealings.

Don’t dwell to long, move on to the next, there is no rhyme or reason.

It just happens.

Only ever try your utmost.

That’s all you can do.
