The world at the time of Babel was not much different from the world at the time of the flood and God had every reason to drown this entire civilization with the exception of whatever few were true to him, but he didn’t do that. God promised that He would not destroy sinners in that fashion again, and that this was to be an age of grace and forbearance, so He dispersed them instead of destroying them. He scatters them over the whole earth and changes their language.

The Ark landed in the “mountains of Ararat” in the Middle East (Gen 8:4), which is located between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea in modern Turkey. After leaving the Ark, most if not all of Noah’s early descendants migrated to the land of Shinar, or Mesopotamia, or Babylonia as it  eventually became known & dwelt there.

In this lesson, we consider the aftermath and possible implications of the Flood as described in the book of Genesis.

Nobody believed Noah’s testimony, and after 120 years the ark was completed, grandfather Methuselah had died and they probably mourned his death for some days and the mourning has just ended. The Bible gives us patterns that we must learn from so that we have an understanding of the issues that we grapple with in our own lifetimes. An understanding of what is happening in Noah’s day is more crucial to us because of what our Lord said.

The idea that giants were the offspring of the fallen host and human females was not unique to Judaism. This understanding was likely behind the Greek, Roman, and Egyptian mythologies, as well as those of India and the Near East. All these beliefs resulted not as mere inventions of fertile human imagination, but as a corruption of antediluvian truths which were distorted as their origin was forgotten over time.

Both the Old and New Testaments begin with a genealogy – Genesis 4-5 and Matthew 1. Genealogies are critical because they help us identify the Messiah, our Lord Jesus Christ. We have already looked at the genealogy of Cain in Genesis 4 and now, we will look at the genealogy of Seth, the genealogy of the promised seed in Genesis 5.

Cain is the first person born into the world. And so with the birth Cain come a number of firsts; the first birth, which therefore constituted the first family; the first sibling follows soon after with the birth of Abel. Some even believe that they were twins, although that can't be verified in the text. In Genesis 4, we have, in the story of Cain, the first recorded act of worship after the fall, the first sacrifice, the first expression of hypocrisy, the first occasion of false religion, the first act of self-righteousness, the first crime and the first opportunity for vengeance, and the introduction of common grace.

A man was not deceived like the woman. He chose to disobey God willfully and premeditatedly; chose to do what his wife wanted him to do. He chose his wife over the word of God. And he, not the woman, as the head of the union and the head of the race, was held culpable for the sin. That's why in Adam we die, rather than in Eve. He is the head of that union and the head of the race. Paradise was lost then for all time for all humanity. The whole race became sinful.

The plight of women in the world is very difficult. Throughout human history and in many parts of the world, it's very hard being a woman. In general, women are the slaves of men - men who, in general, have little interest in their personal needs, very little interest in their feelings, their emotions, their sufferings. In general, men have, throughout human history, used women for sexual fulfillment, for domestic duties, to tend to the children. All over the world, women have been subjugated and humiliated. And until modern times, men actually held the power of life and death over women, and still do in some tribal regions.

It is important to understand how sin came into the world. It is important to understand the universal problem, in order that we can understand the cure. We cannot understand redemptive history and its ending, unless we understand its beginning. We cannot understand why it is important to have a Savior, why it is important that He dies, why it is important that He returns again, and restores this planet to a somewhat Edenic character, and then ultimately destroys the entire universe, and in its place, recreates a new heaven and a new earth. We cannot understand all of the sweeping elements, the comprehensive elements of redemptive history unless we understand the problem and how it came about.
