There are some of us, including some in the family of faith, who believe that the world is inevitably going to decay until it is eventually destroyed. And yet, this is not what we see in Scripture, or in the teachings of Jesus. This world needs to be filled with people who love God and want to beautify the earth, allowing for the flourishing of all creation. In order to do this, we need to challenge false binaries that are undermining biblical truth and the exercise of our faith. Kirk outlines three sets of false binaries—sacred versus secular; spiritual versus physical; and church versus state—and encourages listeners to stop viewing these things as competing ideas. The sacred can exist in secular spaces, and it should. The spiritual world and the physical world are equally important in the eyes of God. And the church does not and should not exist outside of the state. If you don't recognize these false dichotomies, you many be standing in your own way of exercising your faith authentically and freely.
