In this episode, we interview Dr. Benjamin Rattray, Associate Medical Director of Neonatal Intensive Care at the Cone Health Women's and Children's Center in North Carolina. He gives us a glimpse in how he compartmentalizes what he sees on a day-to-day basis in the NICU, how he gives parents good and bad news, and leaves the workday at the hospital when he goes home to his family.
It's important that doctors have a creative outlet, or someone to speak to, to unwind their mind of all the things they see in hospitals to avoid depression, harming thoughts, or physician burnout. Enjoying your hobbies, reflecting on what you're grateful for, and being a wonderful Servant Leader are the ways Dr. Rattray believes one can be the best physician and parent one can be.
