First released in 1995 The Star Wars Customizable Card game from Decipher came at a time when things like Magic the Gathering showed just how popular this type of gaming was. Over the next several years, the SWCCG game out with a number of releases that went past the basic set and covered a number of properties including Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and the Phantom Menace. In 2001 Lucasfilm didn’t renew Decipher’s license but it wasn’t the end of the story for this popular game. As we will find out tonight- much like Darth Maul, it just keeps fighting on.
Sam Tashima joins the program to talk about the game and it’s transition from Decipher to a passionate group called the Player’s Committee who keeps the game alive and well and running years beyond the original retail run. We’ll also find out about all the new cards that continually make the gameplay fresh and how you can learn to play yourself and find others in the community to battle against. Plus did you know there are national and international tournaments? Such a great dive into an amazing game.
