Journalist and author John Kampfner talks to Eamon about the historic Russia-Ukraine ties that render NATO membership for Ukraine unthinkable for Putin and also Germany's complex relationship with Russia. John has written a number of books his most recent is Why the Germans Do it Better: Notes From a Grown-Up Country. He started his career as a foreign correspondent for Reuters in Moscow and during the dissolution of the Soviet Union he was the Daily Telegraph's Bureau Chief there.
