We love up and coming artists especially ones not afraid to take a stand! That is where Amber Akhtar comes in! She wrote a new short called "Cycle" that is getting raves!
Cycle is a short film written by Amber Akhtar, a 22-year-old filmmaker who grew up in Michigan. She just finished her BFA in Dramatic Writing with a minor in Producing at NYU Tisch. During her time at NYU, she wrote two features and many short films and worked on a thesis film selected for Tribeca 2022. She has interned for companies such as The Gotham Film and TV, Cinetic Media, and The Producers Guild.
When asked what motivated her to write this film, Amber said, “Cycle touches on issues of reproductive rights, sexual assault, generational trauma, and substance abuse. Centering around abortion, the short explores the shame of such a stigmatized topic and the struggle for women to be seen and heard authentically. I hope it serves as a reminder that it’s okay to ask for help, and women are not alone at their most vulnerable moments. It’s a lesson I am still learning myself and intend to put into practice for the rest of my life.”
