Ep 211: The Challenges and Triumphs of a Black-Owned Business with Maestro Stevens

Listen Later

Black-owned businesses have always been a vital part of the American economy. However, they have often faced significant challenges, from lack of access to capital to discrimination. In recent years, the black community has made great strides in business ownership, but there is still much work to be done. Racism is one of the biggest challenges that black-owned businesses face. It can manifest in a variety of ways, from customers refusing to patronize black-owned businesses to landlords refusing to rent space to black-owned businesses. But despite these challenges, black-owned businesses continue to thrive and play an important role in the American economy. By supporting black-owned businesses, we can help ensure that they continue to grow and prosper.

Elzie and Maestro, talk about black-owned businesses and the challenges they are facing. Racism is a real challenge for black-owned businesses, but that fear shouldn't stop anyone from being who they are. They also talk about how black-owned businesses need to support each other in order to succeed. It's an interesting conversation that provides some insight into the unique challenges black-owned businesses face.

Episode Highlight:

09:13 - I definitely think it's a thing, it's something that I feel has plagued my entire career, it's like a plague, like a virus that I couldn't get rid off.

13:37 - I think that the root cause of this problem is data, statistics and some form of delusion and some form of not fair expectations.

19:02 - Having that situation happen to them for the first time or first few times, the immediate reaction in my opinion should be anger or mad.

26:52 - We first have to understand where we are culturally from an expectation of ourselves, are we looking, trying to match the benchmark or the standard of others.
