The morning of August 19th, 2003, started like every other for Deborah Blanche Franzman: She went swimming in the ocean at Avila Beach in California. But tragedy struck as Deborah was swimming with a group of seals and a Great White Shark struck her.

In this episode, we have the pleasure of speaking with Jaida Elcock, co-founder of Minorities in Shark Sciences (MISS), and PhD candidate in the MIT-Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
