There are two guests on this week's episode of The Chauncey DeVega Show.

Vegas Tenold is the author of the new book Everything You Love Will Burn: Inside the Rebirth of White Nationalism in America. He is an award-winning journalist who has covered the far right in America for years, as well as human rights in Russia, conflict in central Africa and the Middle East, and national security. A graduate of Columbia University’s School of Journalism, his work has appeared in publications including the New York Times, Rolling Stone, New Republic, and Al Jazeera America.  

Vegas spent 6 years embedded inside white supremacist and other white terrorist hate organizations. He shares his on the ground perspective and experience in Charlottesville during the white supremacist riot which killed Heather Heyer, what white supremacists actually envision for their ideal white "ethnostate", their delusions about "white identity" and "white European unity", as well as the ways that racism, whiteness, and toxic violent masculinity intersect. Vegas also offers some stories about how young white men (and women) are radicalized into joining white racist terrorist organizations. 

Last Sunday, Kevin Willmott won an Oscar for his work writing Spike Lee's film BlacKkKlansman. Kevin is also a friend of The Chauncey DeVega Show. This is our victory lap. From the archives several months ago. 

Kevin Willmott is a professor of film at The University of Kansas. He is also one of the writers on Spike Lee's great new film BlacKkKlansman. Kevin and Chauncey discuss the surreal truth of how Ron Stallworth, a black man, teamed up with a fellow police officer, who is Jewish, to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan. Kevin also reflects on how BlacKkKlansman is a direct counter to the racism and bigotry of Trump's America, W.E.B. Du Bois' concept of "double consciousness", blaxploitation films and the desperation of hate mongers. Chauncey and Kevin also share what happened when they watched BlacKkKlansman in a theater with white Donald Trump supporters. 

On this week's show, Chauncey DeVega reflects on how politics and popular culture overlap in the form of the white savior film--and Oscar winner for best picture--Green Book and the multigenre spectacle that was Trump's personal fixer Michael Cohen's testimony before the House. Chauncey also explains the role played by paid for black conservative human prop Lynne Patton in the role of "best black friend" in a Trump racism romantic comedy.
