Jared Diamond is a professor of geography at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is the author of numerous books including the Pulitzer Prize-winning Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies. Dr. Diamond's new book is Upheaval: Turning Points for Nations in Crisis. In addition to many other honors, Dr. Diamond is the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation genius award. 

Dr. Diamond highlights the four factors that could end America's global dominance, how societies and their leaders choose to succeed or fail, the importance of national character and national identity, the need for countries to be honest with themselves if they are to thrive and prosper, the perils of the Age of Trump, and why government is a force for good if used properly and not the bogeyman of "socialism" that Republicans howl about in the United States.
