EP 26: Mothering the Mother Within (with Dr. Susan Fox)

With the anticipated Mother's Day coming up, this time and many other holidays can be triggering for those who are trying to conceive.

When every waking thought is to fulfill on becoming a mother, the desire to build or expand one's family may feel like it's out of reach. This desire can build up to an energetic level that creates what we call Liver Qi Stagnation, where the creative potential feels suppressed, and we can begin to feel depressed or angry. Then, in the face of a celebration like Mother's Day, a woman can feel isolated and misunderstood. We grieve for that which we love, and the unrequited love of a conception not happening month over month, possibly year over year amplifies our grief.

So today, it's important to honour mothers in waiting.

It's where we give ourselves permission to stop pretending that everything is all "rainbows and unicorns." Instead, treat ourselves kindly. Today, we speak meaningfully from the heart.
