What is up everyone? Welcome back to the podcast. If it's your first time here, this is a place where you can explore the 5 of yourself. What are these sides by the way? What do we do with ourselves here on planet Earth?
Well, the only way we do anything is to be whole and integrated. I believe that being an integrated human starts with the physical body, then it moves to mental, emotional, and then spiritual and financial nourishment of the 5 sides of our self. This is what we talk about on this podcast every single week, twice a week.
The wellness pentagon, the 5 sides of how we get to know ourselves and how we embody all these values and virtues of wellness so that we can be fully integrated. That's what we're all looking for, right? We want to be free. We want to be liberated.
As always, I'm here on these AMAs with my co-captain, Mar. How are you doing today, Mar? I'm doing good. I'm looking forward to the weekend and just relaxing, spending time on the beach and enjoying because summer is definitely my favorite season of the year.
And so I just want to take advantage and like be outside as I can, and then spend the winter inside working and focusing on my projects. So yeah, happy about spending time outside right now.
I love hearing your story. And actually, y'all, I'm out here in Maui, We're here in Maui for a month. So I get to be in the ocean too, which is really cool. On an island in the middle of the ocean. I get that we hear these things in wellness.
And if you're here for the first time, you know that everything has seasons, right? So certain foods grow around at certain times of the year. Well, the same thing relates to our body from an energetic level.
The Native Americans have the wheel and the wheel follows the seasons of East, North, West, and South. When we're in winter, that's a time to go inward. Like you had talked about, Mar.
When we're in summer, it's a time to spread our wings and fly, that's why strawberries and berries and all these sugary fruits grow in the winter because that's mother nature saying, hey, it's time for you to play. And I think the more we can follow these cycles of nature, the healthier we'll be, and the better we're going to ourselves.

Hey Josh, it's nice to meet a fellow Trent. My last name is Trent as well. So I kind of randomly came across your profile, popped up on Instagram and it seems like a lot of people that I'm friends with follow you as well.

Cool, Allison, Such a great question. I don't even know where to begin because my favorite thing in the world. So I guess we can start with this.
Shilajit, as I talked about, is this concentrated sunshine. It has so many properties that are very specific to women's hormonal health. By the way, none of this is medical advice, right?
This is literally just research anecdotal, which I believe is the highest form of research. I think a lot of these double-blind placebo-controlled studies, blah, blah, blah, they all can be funded. So even more, you've heard phrases like, ''Trust the science' in air quotes. It should be more like trust the money, right?
So the vested interest in Shilajit comes from Mother Earth herself. It's not like the company Manna is fabricating these supplements. They're actually just harvesting them from the earth.
A lot of supplements are made in labs by people in white coats. But what I love most about mana is that this is something Mother Nature provides.
It's just challenging to get unless you're really healthy and you can hike 10, 000 feet every day, which maybe you can. And I think if you did enough mana, maybe you could.
But look, when it comes to women, specifically to women, hormonal health and libido, there's also been a lot of research done on the effects of Shilajit for pregnancy and for conception, for actually getting pregnant.
o I am NOT a woman I will pass it over tomorrow at the point in this AMA when she can talk about what it's like to be a woman and how to experience supplements from the earth that make your body shift and do things that you're just really wanting to optimize.
But as a man, I can speak from this, that I noticed with my partner, Carrie Michelle, when she takes the mana, she tells me how great she feels.
And I think the feeling that we get is really the greatest report card because every single moment, we are either in homeostasis and in our center or we're being pulled out of it.
So if you think about the number one piece of this, which is hormonal health, That is probably the biggest thing I could say about women and the Sheilajit or the mana. Also, it can be, and this is by the way, not again, medical advice. There is some research that it helps anemia.
So anemia is the condition when you lack enough healthy red blood cells. So Sheilajit has potential cognitive and enhancing effects as well. And also Shelogit has been used for the treatment of kidney stones, edema and hemorrhoids.
So what does it tell you when Shelogit and the concentrated plant matter are actually improving the flow of your blood?
That means that not only are you getting neuroprotection, which is increasing cognition and just neurology in general, but cognitive disorders, like the ones that are just so heartbreaking, Mar, and I don't know if you have any relatives or if you know any women in your bloodline that have ever suffered from Alzheimer's or dementia or any cognitive issues.
My grandma. So your grandma. So imagine if your grandma knew about what you and I know, then maybe she would have suffered less, right? And maybe my mother would have suffered less.
And, you know, my heart goes out to all women because I don't, again, I don't know what it's like to be a woman, but the demands on a woman's hormonal system, especially when she's had children or when she's going through that process of pregnancy and birth, it's really hard.
It's really challenging. And women in this modern-day society need the most support. Women now need way more support than they did a hundred or 200 years ago. Here's why.
EMF, pollutants, air quality, food quality, soil quality, and just general Instagram craziness. The attacks on women come from all sides, right? And men too, but that's a different podcast, right?
Because Alison, what you're asking is like, I'm a woman and how does this work for me? Well, I think the best way that we could describe this is if you have a practice right now that you're working on feeling your best, the best thing you can do is become an N = 1. N = 1 is citizen science.
And basically what that means is you do 2 weeks or 30 days without something, and then you add something in. It's the same thing people do in nutritional science with food elimination diets, where if you think you have a gluten allergy or a dairy allergy, you would remove it for 30 days and you would add it back in and see how you feel.
A lot of times we get caught up in this left brain thinking where it's like, show me the science, show me the research, show me the data, which I love, right? I'm not negating that.
But Alison, the best report card that you as a woman could ever have is when you take out something or when you place it in something body, to your blood, to your stomach, how do you feel? How do you feel? What is the long-term or even short-term your feelingness?
And then from there, then yes, the science is kind of cool and sexy and fun. That's my thoughts, Mar. But you know, you talked about taking this before you went surfing. You talked about your grandma. I talked about my mom a little bit.
What are other ways that, specifically the Shilajit, right? The concentrated plant matter, we know that we're all micronutrient deficient, but more than that, mineral deficient because of the soil that has been eaten by these huge companies like Monsanto and Agribusiness.
What do you think the white space is in regards to women feeling their best when it comes to like a mineral perspective a general health perspective?...

To master it, to live their life well, but not just to live well, to thrive. This is our AMA today. It's number 653. And I'm as always here with my co-host Mar. How are you doing today?
I'm well rested after the weekend, surfed out, and just happy that I can spend my time in nature as much as I can during the weekends or during my free time. And also approaching pain differently this time because my back pain appeared again after surfing.
And so I gave it some rest instead of pushing through the pain and it feels so much better. I feel like I'm finally listening to my body and giving it when it needs instead of punishing it more and more and more. So yeah, things are good.
It sounds good. And y'all, if you've listened to AMAs before, then you know Maa lives out in the ocean on an island called Azores, which is so beautiful. It is a place that honestly, like when I look at your Instagram, what's your Instagram handle by the way? It's @mar.seaoflove.
There are waterfalls. She's like basking in Hollywood scenes. It's pretty amazing. But one thing that I think your lifestyle can always be for us is a beacon and a reminder to be in nature it is so easy. And we're going to talk about, by the way, expressing yourself today.
So the topic of this AMA as it relates to nature, being in nature, being in the ocean, expressing yourself, moving your body, we're gonna dive deep into expression and why I believe and why I've always felt this way for probably 10 years or more the opposite of depression is expression...
[10:45] How to Use Expression to Heal DepressionLet's dig into this question today. And this is actually a question from Mar. So Mar, I'm gonna let you read it. I'm gonna let you read it because, gosh, it's so key to what we're doing every single these AMAs, right? What is your question?
Okay, well, this is one of many, but I feel like it's the most important at this moment. And the question is:
"If the opposite of depression is expression, in what ways can expression help us heal? And what are the steps to start expressing ourselves authentically in the world?"
I'm taking a deep breath because something that I have firsthand experience on in my life all the time And especially in my early 20s and especially 30s, I can remember, and if y'all can relate to this, hit subscribe because what I'm gonna share is real I think it's universal for all human beings to experience depression at some point in their life and anxiety, right?
Mar, have you ever experienced depression or anxiety in your entire life? So I was never diagnosed with those things, but from how I felt, it felt like both of those things.
And that was during the pandemic because the pandemic time was a really difficult time of my life because I was not only stuck in the pandemic in Peru confinement, we couldn't really leave the house for several months, but I was also stuck in a really toxic relationship.
And so it just brought me down completely. And I'm grateful for that now because I can actually understand what people are going through when they go through all of these things. So I'm grateful I got the experience of it, but I wasn't actually trapped in it really deep.
Well, I love that you said I wasn't diagnosed, which I find so fascinating because a lot of these disorders are really just diagnoses of emotional dysregulation.
And emotional dysregulation, if you think about what emotion really is, right? Emotion is energy in motion. It's like you're either a dam or you're a river. So the body gets blocked, not just from the environment, but also from thoughts.
Thoughts and environment and food and energy and people and things can block energy flow in your system.
Now in the East, they call it prana, or in Asia, they call it chi. Here in the West, we call it energy, but it's all the same.
We have these meridians in our body, besides just the chakras, we have meridians or energy points in acupressure or acupuncture, the body can release stuck energy. Now you can also get really stuck energy through breathwork.
All these different modalities are essentially pointing to 1 thing, and that is you're either expressing, which is emotion, energy in motion, or you're depressing, which is energy in motion that's stuck. So think of that construct, y'all. You're either a dam or a river, right?
I'm gonna go back to this many times during this rant. Because it's a rant, It's me expressing, it's funny because I'm expressing myself and what I believe to be true.
And whenever we express ourselves, we always learn because the best way to integrate anything or to really feel what you're saying is by teaching it.
So if I'm teaching something or I'm guiding someone else or I'm sharing what I believe to be true about the world or like this, which is massive expression and depression, then by just the fact of me expressing myself, I am healing, I am learning while I am teaching. I think that's a really big point.
You do not have to be a black belt to teach a white belt. In other words, whatever lane you're in in life, I don't care if you're 18 years old listening to this, or if you're 80 years old, you can always become a teacher to others.
Not from an egoic place, not like, oh, I'm the teacher and you're the student. It's not like that. It's more like a real teacher, a real guide, does it from a place of love and of peace and of service.
You have seen this, Mar, and I know we all can relate to this. Certain people that are in the spiritual world, let's call them spiritual narcissists, right? And they teach from a place of egotism.
They teach from a place of, well, I'm on the mountain and I'm wearing the white cape and you should do exactly what I say because in my five-step proven method, it's always worked for me and it's maybe millions of dollars.
You do like making money don't you and you see these spiritual narcissists fucking shame people.
They shame people, first of all, they hook people from a wounding standpoint of depression or trauma, they find out through meta algorithms, and this is the danger by the way, of not expressing yourself, which I'll get to in a moment.
When you don't express yourself, you're easily monetized. You're more easily monetized and the system who creates these spiritual narcissists by the way because they're actually serving from their wounding but their wounding has clouded their wisdom.
These people can go out and they can hook you're not doing your deepest work on how to express your depression. Because remember the opposite of depression is expression...

What is life like being a content manager for the Willness + Wisdom podcast, working together with us, and also getting to surf and finding this work-life balance that I think so many of us are striving for?
I think you do a pretty good job of that. So yes, thank you for being here as always on the AMAs. Mar, just give people a little snapshot into your life. All right.
Well, when it comes to my job, I feel like I'm 1 of the most fortunate people in the world who got a job that actually feels like I'm studying every day.
So I'm learning from you, I'm learning from the guests that we have on the podcast, and I'm just constantly growing as a person, which that's like the biggest benefits anybody could give you at a job. So I'm super grateful for that opportunity.
And when it comes to my personal life, I'm just happy to be in the water, in nature. And whenever I'm not doing that, I'm trying to work on my personal goals as well, because I do have those big ambitions.
I'm not sure if it's because I'm Capricorn. But yeah, I've always had big, great big dreams. And I'm just making sure that they become eventually goals and plans and reality.
Yeah, it sounds like it. I mean, you're in a good place to do that because it's really hard to create any life from a place compression.
And being out there in nature, look, it's one of the things we talk about all the freaking time on this podcast is the power of nature. You know, the Japanese doctors call it Shinrin-yoku, where they actually prescribe nature patients.
And it's so easy to listen to this podcast. By the end of this podcast, by the way, my goal is that you leave these next 10, 15 minutes with some nugget that's actionable, that'll really move the needle in your life. That's my promise to you...
[06:00] Behavior Is LanguageLet's talk about behavior because behavior comes in many forms. Behavior comes in really the 5 core emotions, right? And in those 5 core emotions, some people describe it as anger, joy or love, fear, disgust, and sadness. I think those are pretty core.
Now you could extrapolate those to many different things, but those 5 core emotions, those are the ones that behavior comes from. Let's go in stages here.
Why do people behave in a way, either ourselves or others, where they say one thing, but then they do another? Can you feel this? Do you relate to this?
Maybe a family member or a spouse or husband or wife, boyfriend or girlfriend, brother or sister, aunt, uncle, grandpa, grandma. We've all experienced this.
And then we've even experienced it ourselves, where behavior is truly a form of language. Because here's what behavior does, behavior communicates someone's truest intention, whether it's unconscious or conscious.
So behavior is really information, right? It's information about what someone's thinking, what someone's feeling, what their intention is, or what their kind of general baseline attitude is, right?
There are a few reasons why behavior is, in my opinion, the biggest barometer of language. Behavior is language. And I want to go to this concept for you. Behavior is language.
What someone says and what someone does when there's a disconnect between the two, it just means that there's an integrity break. There's a break in the bond of integrity between what someone says they are, or what someone says they're going to do, or what someone says their intention is, and what actually shows up.
So the first thing is the intention, right? When someone has an intention, for case in point, if I have an intention to have a loving day with my lady, with my beloved Carrie Michelle, to connect with my children, and I don't behave in that way...
It means that I'm out of integrity. It means that maybe I'm not feeling well or I'm trying to force something or I'm doing best and y'all can relate to this.
You have an intention of how you want your day to go but then all of a sudden, boom, boom, boom, boom, things happen.
You find yourself in a vortex of reactivity instead of responsiveness.
You find yourself not breathing.
You find yourself reaching for unhealthy food.
You find yourself doing something, and as you're doing it, you're like, Why am I doing this? Why am I actually doing this?
It's because you have not gotten clear enough on what your language truly is. The thoughts and the things and the words that we speak to ourselves, that is the first thing. This is why we've talked about this before, Mar. Same thing with different words, right? Know thyself.

If you find that your behavior is different than what you say. So the communication of intentions that I'm talking about here, and I'll go back to my own vulnerability.
I say that not because I'm gonna virtue signal my vulnerability because this is real for me in my life right now. So I have struggled in the past couple of months with expansion, stepping into bigger responsibility financially, stepping into a bigger house, stepping into 3 acres of land, stepping into dealing with contractors, stepping into more sleep deprivation because my children are keeping us, especially Carrie Michelle. Just stepping into more, right?
And a lot of times whenever we step into more, our behavior is much different than what we say. So the behavior is actually language because the behavior communicates what's really going on inside of the human and what's really going on inside of the human is a feeling that hasn't been addressed, a narrative that's unhealthy, or a way of talking to yourself, a way of thinking that is really deteriorating intention.
Here's a specific example. And then I'll pass it to you Mar, because I really want to know from a, not just from a woman's perspective, just from a different perspective in life because gosh, I'm just a man.
This is why it's so important that we have this balance of masculine and feminine energy because gosh, for all the men listening, we do not have it wired, y'all. And the same thing for the women. I don't think y'all have it wired either.
We need each other. We need each other. We need each other. We need this balance of opposites. So let's go into this, right?
Vulnerably, there has been a lot of fighting in my household lately. And I have noticed that when I have the intention, I wake up in the morning, before my feet even hit the floor, I notice these thoughts coming in, this narrative. Remember, I said behavior is language, right? So what happens before behavior?...
