On January 15, 1947, a mother walking her child in a vacant Los Angeles lot discovered what she initially thought was a discarded mannequin, tragically it was the body of Elizabeth Short. She had been severed at the waist and drained of blood—a crime so theatrical and gruesome it changed the American media forever.
