This week, we’re revisiting an important interview with Dr. Michele B. Goodwin from earlier this year that’s really worth a second listen. Alex sits down with Dr. Goodwin to walk us through the history of American laws restricting reproductive rights for women, from involuntary reproductive servitude in the times of slavery to denying pregnant women access to life-saving healthcare today.
Dr. Michele B. Goodwin is an acclaimed bioethicist, constitutional law scholar, prolific author, and law professor at Georgetown Law School. She serves on the executive committee and national board of the American Constitution Society and previously on the executive committee of the ACLU, and she was the first woman to be elected Secretary General of the International Academy of Law & Mental Health. She is the author/editor of six books, including “Policing The Womb: Invisible Women and the Criminalization of Motherhood.” She ranks among the most cited professors in the field of bioethics, and is a sought after public commentator, having been featured in print, radio, and television news. Dr. Goodwin is also the Executive Producer for Ms. Studios, and host of the podcast “On The Issues with Michele Goodwin.”
