Ever find yourself scouring the internet looking for that one thing to increase egg quality and chances of getting pregnant? One fertility supplement that can be easily found is DHEA. The good news is that there’s evidence that DHEA can help improve pregnancy rates, specifically for women with a low ovarian reserve.
According to a review of DHEA research; four of five studies analyzed reported increases in pregnancy rates for patients taking DHEA prior to IVF—in one trial, the pregnancy rate more than doubled. Other study results included higher follicle counts, more eggs retrieved, and lower doses of medication required for IVF patients using DHEA before their cycles. It is not known how DHEA works, but we suspect it’s by improving egg quality based on the higher pregnancy rates. It is not a silver bullet treatment because its effects vary from one woman to the next. That's because we are all unique with our individual physiology.
So, consider testing blood work levels before taking DHEA prescribed by a professional and find out when it's NOT recommended.
