In 1379 a prisoner made their final journey, the longest journey he would ever make, as his destination was the gallows, where, before a crowd could barely wait to see his dangle by his neck until dead. In 1801 these gallows claimed it’s final victim, and in the 422 years in between hundreds of condemned met their end here, including the most famous highwayman that there ever was.

The site where the gallows once stood appears to have been stained by the extreme death and suffering that occurred here, which manifests itself in people being touched by unseen hands, and disembodied voices carried on the breeze.
