Over the last decade, a growing list of digital assets have been available to trade on exchanges around the globe, as policymakers work to keep pace with the fast-moving industry.

It’s estimated that there are currently up to 500 in operation, each with its own platform, geographical reach, and operating in a unique regulatory environment. And while these platforms may end up looking more and more like their traditional market counterparts, existing exchanges should also benefit from new competition and sources of innovation.
