Professor Cedric Johnson is the guest on this week's episode of The Chauncey DeVega Show. He is the author/editor of several books including Revolutionaries to Race Leaders: Black Power and the Making of African American Politics, as well as The Neoliberal Deluge: Hurricane Katrina, Late Capitalism and the Remaking of New Orleans. 

Dr. Johnson is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and African-American Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In this expansive conversation, Cedric and Chauncey discuss "Black Lives Matter", "substantive" versus "symbolic" politics, the limitations of social media "activism", Black Nationalism, the Trump phenomenon, the misunderstood concept of the "Black Freedom Struggle", and Hurricane Katrina.
