Robert D Weide came up around Crip, Blood and Sureño gang violence during his formative years on the West Side of Los Angeles in the peak era of violence in the United States. Normalization of violence was an integral aspect of Weide's youth; his years of involvement amongst gangs, tag-banging and graffiti led him to an array of conclusions. After taking a step-back, he began to pursue to path of a scholar, eventually becoming a professor. He authored "Divide & Conquer", a book that touches on his upbringing, his insider view into gang-culture, capitalism, society and more.
