Love means letting go, right? Letting them choose their path. God even does this for us. He could force us to obey Him, but He doesn't. It's hard to apply this in our own lives though. We want those we love to make good choices and so sometimes it just seems easier to try to force them. We're talking about how love is not control today.

There are many ways for love to break down between people. There may be a poor understanding of what love even is or we could have trouble seeing others the way God sees them--which is always as the apple of His eye. Evan & Liz Frerichs talk about getting how getting this perspective in the forefront of our mind can help us love others. Fact is, everyone is loved by God, so if we see them as they truly are, we will love them too.

Part of our job as people made in the image of God is to protect the vital core of our heart so there is room to give love abundantly. But if we don't have good boundaries, our hearts get plundered. When we're not assertive, we begin to resent those around us, stifling love. Often, saying 'no' means 'I love you.' There are many ways to say 'I love you.'

Maybe you're pretty good at loving others. But what about when they reject you? How hard it is to deal with that pain—when they don't return your love? It's too easy to take on that rejection and make it part of your identity—but don't do it! Jesus loved perfectly, and he got murdered for it. And yet he overcame. It's possible to survive rejection in love.

Know any annoying people? How about downright hurtful people? How do you love them? Evan & Liz Frerichs talk about how it's impossible to solve that person's problem—whatever it is that makes them hurtful and annoying. Instead, as Christians, it's our job to ask God to examine our hearts and show us why we're annoyed so He can heal it. Then we will be on solid ground to respond to those who are hard to love.

You have been bought with a price, you are a new creation, you have been forgiven, you are God's child. These should be shame killers and love amplifiers if you're in the family of God. But too often, Christians loose track of this core part of our identity. God is the only one in the universe capable of forgiving AND forgetting. Let Him define you.

Why is it so difficult to receive love? Partly because it takes humility. If it's really love, the other person is going to see who you really are. This is scary idea! And we come up with all kinds of things to hinder really loving; everything from flat out refusal to unintentional/intentional avoidance.

It's not faith or strength to hide doubts, and it's not noble to suppress parts of your self. But when we want to love or be loved, we often do this—creating less intimacy, not more. To truly love takes understand ourselves and to do that, we've got to see ourselves the way God sees us.

God does not despise us. So why do we live like He does? And when we don't see His love for us, it's too easy to despise ourselves. But a fruit of the spirit is love and this must include self-love. Evan & Liz Frerichs' prayer is that we will all see ourselves as God sees us.

Love your neighbor as you love yourself. How often do we as Christians forget the self-love, while our culture is forgetting the part about loving your neighbor? There are 100 little ways to do self-care through out the day and week. Evan and Liz Frerichs also discuss the difference between selfishness and self-care.
