Brim Fishing Project Celebrates Milestone with Thrilling Tournament Coverage

The Bream Fishing Project podcast marked its 100th episode with an exciting recap of the Western Australian Tournament Anglers Kayak Round 3. Held at Moore River on September 29, 2024, the event drew an impressive 39 kayak anglers, showcasing the growing popularity of the sport.

Host Andrew Death kicked off the landmark episode by expressing heartfelt gratitude to listeners, sponsors, and guests who have supported the show throughout its journey. The celebration, however, quickly turned to the action-packed tournament at hand.

Moore River, described by competitors as a small but rewarding fishing system, proved to be a challenging yet fruitful venue. Its compact nature demanded strategic approaches from anglers, with the potential for excellent catches lurking in its waters.

Alex Griesdorf secured third place with a respectable haul of three fish weighing 1.60 kg. His arsenal included a mix of grubs, Slim Swims, and Baby Vibes, demonstrating the effectiveness of versatility in lure selection.

Edging out Alex for second place, Matt McCarthy landed three fish totaling 1.820 kg. McCarthy's success came from an unconventional "dragon belly" soft plastic and the reliable pygmy mussel lure. His methodical approach to fishing structure, particularly trees and rocks, paid dividends.

Both anglers emphasized the importance of slow retrieves and light 3 lb leaders in their strategies. The shallow waters and edges of Moore River proved to be prime hunting grounds for bream, requiring finesse and patience from the competitors.

Adrian Barbour emerged victorious in the Western Australian Tournament Anglers Kayak Round 3 at Moore River, securing first place with a bag of three fish weighing 1.87 kilos. Despite feeling jet-lagged from a recent overseas trip, Barbour found success close to the launch site, fishing within a kilometer of the start. His winning strategy involved using a 3-pound straight-through leader and slow-rolling soft plastics, particularly a discontinued color of Jackall minnow. Barbour’s patience paid off as he landed his three keepers by 9:30 AM, including two 34cm fish and one 30cm fish.
