This episode the National Crawford Roundtable discusses the current fiasco in Afghanistan. How serious is this humiliation for the United States? Are we experiencing another, "fall of Saigon" moment? Was the 20 year war a waste of time, effort and resources? In Biden's address to the nation he defended, "his" decision to end the war, but wasn't it Trump who negotiated the war's end? Isn't the bigger issue not that we left, but HOW we left? Trump negotiated an agreement that was dependent upon the Taliba not trying to seize control of Afghanistan, but after Biden took office the Taliban started advancing, but Biden did not respond accordingly. And why does the spokesman for the Taliban have an active Twitter account, but Trump does not? The Taliban is already alluding to reinstating Sharia Law--how will that affect women and homosexuals in the country? Will executions of gays happen again? Will women be forced to wear Burqas, not be allowed to leave their homes without a male escort or written permission from their husbands? Will women be denied an education and employment? What about the military equipment, weapons, ammunition, tanks, etc. that has been left behind--how will they be used by the Taliban? Does this mean we have, "officially" lost the war on terror against the Taliban? What should we have done differently?
