As the first-ever African-American to play in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) for NCAA basketball, Perry Wallace destroyed racial barriers and paved the way for every single black collegiate to come. Despite having college options in the North, where integration was normal, he decided to stay home in Nashville, Tennessee and play for Vanderbilt University. Wallace set for himself a high standard of excellence in every area of his life and was a true pioneer of college basketball.
