Jack Sargeant PhD is the author of various books on underground film and culture, including Flesh And Excess: On Underground Film, Against Control, Naked Lens: Beat Cinema, and Deathtripping: The Cinema of Transgression (republished as Deathtripping: The Extreme Underground). He has written introductory essays for works by Lydia Lunch, Joe Coleman, McLean Stephenson, and Karolina Urbaniak and Martin Bladh, among others. His writings focusing on underground film, outsider art, photography, and performance have appeared in numerous publications, journals, magazines, and liner notes. Jack has also written on true crime, death, and various other unusual subjects. He's also a curator and programmer of film and art, and an occasional visual artist.
In pre-pandemic days Jack enjoyed participating in public readings and talks. He is a co-founder of the Transgressive Cultures Conference, in Paris. Against Control and other titles can be purchased through the usual online sources, or via your local indie bookshop.
