The Mourning Hour

Episode 12: The Waverly Hills Sanatorium

Listen Later

By the dawn of the 19th century, tuberculosis had killed 1 in every 7 people and throughout the later half of the 1800s, sanatoriums began popping up all over the world in an attempt to fight the epidemic, as it was believed that resting in a healthy environment would be enough to cure the patients who fell ill. This week, Allison and Katie will be taking you to Louisville, Kentucky where we discuss the history of one of these sanatoriums, Waverly Hills, and the haunting reputation its come to have.
