There is always an underlying cause for a certain feeling or behavior, and it is important to figure out what that cause is. When we engage in unhelpful or problematic behaviors, we do it for a reason. The maladaptive behavior serves some kind of function that is important to us. However, there are usually unpleasant consequences associated with that problem behavior.

Chain analysis is a process that can help people better understand why certain behaviors happen. Do you want to know why you avoid your mother's phone call? Do you drink more than you think is good for you? Why do you yell at your children? Why do you take unnecessary risks?

Listen to this week's podcast to learn some steps in analyzing YOUR behavior. What happens to cause you to act that way? What are all the events that precede the behavior? What makes you vulnerable to behaving this way? What are the consequences?
