"Union with God - This is the traditional understand of the goal of apophatic prayer."
Do you ever pray without words?
This is apophatic prayer.
Contemplative prayer is apophatic in nature and it is something many of us have not encountered in the West. It involves turning our full attention to God, listening, waiting, and being attentive. (It should not be confused with a similar sounding word "apathetic")
In our conversation, Dr. Mellinger gives us a biblical, historical, and practical context for enriching our prayer lives through contemplative (attentive and quiet) means.
Here's how to get started with a mature type of interaction with God where we don't do all talking. There's nothing apathetic about it! :)
