In 2010, Matthew Hoffman broke into Tina Herrmann’s home intending to commit a burglary but instead killed Herrmann, her friend Stephanie Sprang, and Herrmann’s 11-year-old son Kody Maynard. He concealed their dismembered bodies inside a hollow, 60-foot-tall tree. During the same crime spree, he abducted Herrmann’s 13-year-old daughter, Sarah Maynard, who ultimately survived and later recounted the horrors she endured.
