Amanda Michelle Todd (November 27, 1996 – October 10, 2012) was a 15-year-old Canadian student from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, who died by suicide after enduring prolonged cyberbullying and blackmail. A month before her death she uploaded a nine-minute YouTube video titled “My story: Struggling, bullying, suicide, self-harm,” in which she held up a series of hand-written flashcards to recount how an anonymous stranger had coerced her into exposing her breasts on a BlogTV webcam, then threatened to distribute the images to her classmates. In the video she also described ongoing harassment, physical assaults and self-harm. After her suicide the clip went viral—amassing over 15.5 million views on the original upload and tens of millions more on mirrored copies by July 2025— as global media outlets and reaction videos drew attention to her case. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the British Columbia Coroners Service opened formal inquiries into her death.

Stuart Lubbock (1 October 1969 – 31 March 2001) was an English meat-factory worker whose unexplained death at television host Michael Barrymore’s home in Roydon, Essex, ended Barrymore’s TV career. On the morning of 31 March 2001, Barrymore and guests James Futers and Simon Shaw found Lubbock unconscious in Barrymore’s swimming pool. A post-mortem revealed serious anal injuries and the presence of ecstasy, cocaine and alcohol in his blood.

Waitomo Caves Hotel, originally opened as Waitomo House and later known as the Government Hostel at Waitomo, is a heritage hotel erected in 1908 above the Waitomo Caves in New Zealand’s King Country. At first it offered just six guest rooms, but in 1927–28 it was enlarged with 24 additional bedrooms plus a new kitchen and dining room. Celebrated for its distinctive New Zealand Victorian architecture, the building is also said by some to be haunted.

The Texarkana Moonlight Murders— a name given by newspapers of the day—were a string of four weekend-night attacks on young couples in the Texarkana area between February 22 and May 3, 1946. Believed to be the work of a single unknown assailant nicknamed the Phantom of Texarkana (or Phantom Killer/Slayer), these crimes left eight people targeted and five dead over ten weeks. The first three assaults happened at lovers’ lanes or lonely stretches of road in Texas; the fourth struck a remote farmhouse in Arkansas. National and international press coverage triggered widespread panic: residents armed themselves, bolted doors at dusk, enforced curfews, and emptied stores of guns, ammunition, locks, and window‐guard hardware. Local, county, state and federal agencies—including the Bowie County sheriff’ s office, Texarkana police, Texas Rangers, Arkansas State Police, the Texas DPS and the FBI—collaborated on the hunt.

In the autumn of 2015, 21-year-old Amsterdam medical student Sophia Koetsier flew to Kampala for an eight-week internship in tropical medicine. When her placement ended, she and two classmates set off on a two-week tour of Uganda’s wildest parks. Early on, her friends noticed she was behaving unusually: Sophia had a history of bipolar disorder, and over the first few days of the trip her mood swings grew increasingly manic. In the cold pre-dawn hours of February 28, 2022, at about 4:40 AM, Madison County dispatchers received a 911 call from 25-year-old Timmy Dees. He told the operator that a friend who’d driven him to Fredericktown the night before was threatening him. Tragically, no recording of that call exists— Madison County’s equipment had failed the previous December and wouldn’t be replaced until mid-March. Whatever the reason for the outage, it doesn’t excuse the fact that no one stayed on the line to keep Timmy calm until officers arrived. If they had, he might still be alive today—or at least we’d have a clearer picture of what he faced that night.

ST. Anne’s Nunnery Also known as Pine Glenn cove

Pine Glenn Cove is a private vacation retreat in Logan Canyon, Utah—also called Hatch’ s Camp, Forest Hills, the Nunnery and St. Anne’ s Retreat. Situated within Cache National Forest, it’s the area’s largest private getaway and the only one with a swimming pool. Founded by a wealthy businessman in the early 1910s and expanded by his descendants, it gained fame in the late 20th century when the Catholic Church operated it as a spiritual retreat for nuns.

On April 25, 2021, nineteen-year-old Derontae Martin was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head in the attic of a rural Missouri home owned by a man known for white- supremacist views. The Madison County coroner quickly ruled the death a suicide. Martin’s family disputed that finding, and after commissioning a second autopsy and holding a coroner’s inquest, a six-person jury concluded his death was caused by violence, not by his own hand.

Disappearance of Stefanie Damron

On the mist-shrouded morning of September 23, 2024, thirteen-year-old Stefanie Damron slipped quietly from her weathered clapboard house on West Road in New Sweden, Maine. Following a sharp quarrel with her sister, she walked into the pine-lined edge of the woods—its needles muffling her steps—never to return. By the next dawn, her frantic parents had alerted authorities, and the hunt was on.

American football tight end Aaron Hernandez

In 2013, Hernandez was charged with Lloyd’s murder—a semi-pro player dating his fiancée’s sister. The Patriots released him immediately. Convicted in 2015, he received life without parole. While imprisoned, he was tried and acquitted for a 2012 double homicide. Five days later, he was found dead in his cell, ruled a suicide. His murder conviction was briefly vacated posthumously but later reinstated. A posthumous diagnosis of CTE fueled debate about its role in his actions.
