Countess Elizabeth Báthory of Ecsed (Hungarian: Báthori Erzsébet; Slovak: Alžbeta Bátoriová; 7 August 1560 – 21 August 1614) was a Hungarian noblewoman from the powerful House of Báthory who held extensive estates in the Kingdom of Hungary (modern-day Slovakia). Between roughly 1590 and 1610 she and four of her servants were accused of torturing and killing hundreds of girls and young women. Ultimately, Bathory and her servants faced eighty counts of murder. While her servants were executed after conviction, Elizabeth herself was confined to Csejte Castle (now Čachtice, Slovakia), where she remained imprisoned until her death in 1614.
