Grieving Parents Sharing Hope

Episode 23: The Mental Breakdown

Listen Later

The Road to Repair Series

God created us as three-part beings; body, soul and spirit. Too often we don't think about how these three parts operate separately, or how they are intertwined, with one part affecting the other two parts.

We are starting out this series by looking at how our soul is affected, which is our mind/thoughts, our will and emotions.  Last week we tackled the emotional breakdown. This week we will take a look at our minds, or the mental breakdown, that makes us all think we are going crazy.

We can often be frustrated with ourselves for what a mess and how unpredictable we are, months and years down the road. We don't like being that way. But the fact is, that is now a part of who we are, and even as we grow out of that, we will always be capable at any moment of returning to being that fragile broken person.

Join host, Laura Diehl, as she shares some helpful suggestions on how to strengthen our souls within our grief, after the death of our child.

Note: Many parents are angry at God for allowing their child to die. Laura understands this, and does not lay guilt on anyone for these raw and real feelings. With acknowledgement of this, she delicately shares insight into how the following scriptures can help us, even in our hurt and anger.

Psalm 91:9 You have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place.

Psalm 71:3 Be to me a rock of habitation to which I may continually come.

Romans 8:18 Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory He will reveal to us later.

Eph. 3:20 With God's power working in us, he can do much, much more than anything we can ask or think of.

1 Peter 5:10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect (mature, restore), establish, strengthen, and settle you.

1 Peter 1:3 In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Psalm 143:8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.

Rev 22:13 I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 For our troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
