The Rockies did so anyway, beating Clayton Kershaw, Yu Darvish and Alex Wood in the process; better plate discipline led to good power production, and solid relief pitching sealed the deal.

Nevertheless, the Rockies didn't put any space between them and the Brewers or Cardinals; teams in hot pursuit of the final wild-card spot.
