In this week's episode of Every Rockie Ever, Skyler and Dustin convened on a snow day to chat former players that currently work as coaches in the Rockies system. Recently, the Rockies hired former catcher Dustin Garneau as the major league bullpen coach. Despite a career that didn't flourish at the plate, Garneau has been known for solid defense and his work as catching coordinator/game planner for the minor league system the past two years presents some hope for the team's young bullpen.
They then turn focus to fan favorite and 2018 Wild Card game hero Tony Wolters. Wolters joined the organization as the bench coach for the ACL Rockies in 2024, and the brothers break down his excellent work behind the plate working with pitches, lamenting that his offense never took off, and getting to the root of why he had the nickname Papers.
Finally, they close things out mourning what could have been for current Rockies special assistant Scott Oberg. As Oberg was growing into prominence as a reliever, a recurring blood clot issue in his arm forced an early retirement from baseball, robbing both Oberg and fans of the high-quality reliever he was becoming. Still, there are wonderful moments to celebrate, like his role in closing out the 2018 Wild Card victory over the Cubs.

This week, Evan is activated off the IL to rejoin Skyler and discuss the Gold Glove Awards given to Ezequiel Tovar and Brenton Doyle, the Colorado Rockies claiming pitcher Jimmy Herget, catcher Jacob Stallings hitting free agency, and a whole mess of other stuff including minor league free agency. In this new episode of Affected by Altitude, Skyler handles the show all by himself as Evan Lang is indisposed with sickness. The Rockies made their first move of the offseason by reportedly acquiring utility infielder Owen Miller from the Milwaukee Brewers for cash considerations. Is he an indication of further Rockies' offseason plans or is he just another depth acquisition the team hopes can contribute in some manner? Skyler then looks over the Rockies' potential free agent targets and wishlist while breaking down The Denver Posts assessment that the Rockies aren't cheap, but spend their money quite foolishly.

In this episode of Every Rockie Ever, Skyler and Dustin reunite to talk about two notable veteran catchers for the Rockies. Yorvit Torrealba etched his name into Rockies lore as the primary catcher in 2007 while carving out a solid career in purple. Despite being a platoon catcher behind Chris Ianneta, Torrealba always made the most of his playing time.
Jonathan Lucroy was a great trade acquisition at the deadline in 2017, immediately impacting a young pitching staff and navigating them to the playoffs. What made him better was that he found some offensive resurgence after the trade, even though the power wasn't there, and made us wish we could have re-signed him.

This week Skyler and Evan are hit with news most unwelcome: Bud Black will return in 2025 as the manager of the Colorado Rockies for a ninth season. Further coaching staff shakeups are not expected with only PJ Pilittere and Reid Cornelius being shown the door after back-to-back 100-loss seasons in Denver. We wrap things up with some Arizona Fall League talk and the playoffs so far. It's all about the Mets baby lets go Mets love da Mets.
