Gymnastics lovers will FLIP over this double episode with former gymnasts McKenzie Wofford and Brenna Dowell-Barnes! Both girls were instrumental to the success of OU women’s gymnastics, winning multiple Big 12 and national championships during their time at OU.
McKenzie says: “I was born and raised in the Austin area with a little bit of Dallas and Houston sprinkled in!
My gymnastics career started when I was 3 years old and I started competing competitively at age 6! I moved through all of the levels pretty quick and started to compete at the elite level at age 10. While I was in elite for 7 years I was on the national team and got to compete for USA, which was such an honor. I went back to level 10 my senior year to focus on preparing for college!
I committed to the University of Oklahoma when I was a freshman in highschool and it was the easiest decision I have ever had to make. While I was there, I helped OU win their first 3 championships in school history (2014, 2016, and 2017). The friends and memories I made there are something I will cherish for the rest of my life. After graduating in 2017 I got scoliosis surgery and completed a year of my masters. During that year I got to enjoy being a normal student while recovering and volunteered at the children’s hospital and elementary school.
I then started my career in 2018 which led me back to Texas! I am now in the Dallas areas surrounded by my best friends and am an account executive at a cybersecurity company!
I am surrounded by the best family (mom, dad and 2 younger brothers) and my faith is something that gets me through life every day!
I became a Sooner fan just by walking on campus! It was actually the only school I visited and knew I didn’t need to look anywhere else!
My favorite Sooner memories are all 3 of my national championships that were won -they all had different things that made it my favorite.”
