In July 2022, Foreign Policy's Lynne O'Donnell returned to Afghanistan for the first time since the Taliban had retaken the country. What was meant to be a typical reporting trip suddenly turned into an ordeal when Lynne was detained and interrogated by senior members of the Taliban's leadership.
